Fireplace in the master bedroom/bathroom. Good idea or no?

I am in the process of remodeling a house. I LOVE to warm up by a fireplace, and will have a gas fireplace in my living room. My master bedroom and bathroom are in the complete opposite end from this fireplace and thought about putting a double sided fireplace in the wall between the bedroom and bathroom. I could rearrange the layout of the bathroom (because I'm still at "that" stage) and have the bathroom side be above the tub. BUT in the grand scheme of things, I'd probably only use the fireplace for maybe 2 months of the year. Also, when I talked about this idea, someone made the comment of, do you really want someone to see you sitting on the toilet though the fireplace?? So what are your thoughts. Anyone have this? Is it worth the $?

Use under-floor heating, not a fireplace that will draw heat *out* of the room.

We have a two-sided fireplace. It's placed as you describe--next to the jetted tub. The big difference is that it faces the sitting area of our master and the toilet is contained in a little room with a door so there is no watching someone in there.

We use it daily in the winter months and less frequently in the fall and spring. I often turn it on for a bit before I shower to make the bathroom extra warm. In the evenings we often watch TV in bed with the fireplace turned on. Because I work out of our our house I will frequently go to the sitting area with my laptop, turn on the fireplace and enjoy it.

For us the expense has definitely been worth the money as we use it much more frequently than the wood burning fireplace in the family room.

Thanks Loribee, I'd like a mirror, but I also love when people have mirrors behind the bedside tables. I'm wondering if that would look good. It's hard to think of what would go over the bed too. Because the bed is so ornate and big and the ceiling is high. I have such a hard time picking art. Beth P.

I think the bathroom needs serious work to make it a nice space . The floor and the tile do not work together , the whole space is huge for no reason, the cabinets are the only thing worth keeping. I would save my money to renovate that space for sure. As for bedroom color I usuallt start with the bedding , a feature wall works best when it is on a wall with no doors or windows. I think the window in your master is too small, the wall color and the carpet don’t work together so maybe post a pic of the bedding you love and I hope you are not going to bring all those pieces into your new bedroom from the spare one.Also your ide books are all over the place, seriuosly sit down before doing anything and figure what style you really like. These spaces could be fabulous but they will require money and a good designer,

Yes, I think pink is a beautiful color for a master bedroom! The trick is picking the right pink and then balancing it with other elements that are not overly feminine. I love pink and brown together, or black. When choosing a grownup ink go to the brown section in your color deck. As you move up to the lighter colors you will see what I refer to as dirty pinks. These are softer, more pleasing pinks that men can love.

I would think the most popular configuration would be what is typical for a house with three bedrooms. It would have a master bedroom with an ensuite of a nice size. A nice shower would be preferred by most people rather than a tub and small shower or a tub shower combination. The two guest bedrooms would share a bathroom and that bathroom would have a tub shower combination. I have always lived in dense urban areas (Manhattan and now Los Angeles high rise condo) and that would be the configuration for your target audience. Having three small master bathrooms would be a configuration if you were renting to three unrelated people who needed to share the rent and personally I don't think that is the optimum tenant as families and empty nesters are more reliable and probably long term versus constantly moving as young unrelated professionals would.

If the 2 sided fireplace will allow morning light to come into the bedroom from the bathroom windows then it would be a big negative for me.

I would not put a gas appliance of any kind in a bedroom.
