Does it really cost $5k to replace a 2.5 ton condenser?

We are in Northern NJ

We have a Tempstar R22 that is at the end of its life. We reached out to an HVAC provider that had previously showed up in an emergency and replaced another unit within 24 hours, so would prefer to give them the business but I want to make sure it’s reasonable. My wife doesn’t want to wait around for more quotes

He was saying our existing air handler and its coils may not be compatible with a lot of the newer condensers out there and we wouldn’t get a full 10 year warranty if we went that way. We also have a hydro coil heating system that is hooked up to this air handler.

Do the below sound reasonable? Does it make sense to replace the air handler too in one go? I’m guessing it’s 10-15 years old and he said the coils were starting to rust, but not sure I believe that. What questions should I be asking?
