Need living room advice

I need some advice on how to arrange our tv. Currently, we have it resting in front of our fireplace which is not ideal. Wall mounting the tv is not an option since this is a rental and the tv would be too high. We tried moving the tv to the other side of the room but the couch placement makes the living room feel cramped. Also need advice on what to do / what to put in the fireplace corner of the room. Currently we have a router there but are not sure what we can put there other than a plant.

You haven't provided us with any dimensions, but are either of these locations possible?

And why can't you mount a TV on the wall in a rental? It's two small holes to hold up the bracket?

Can you fit a console to the right of the bookcase? This piece is from Amazon $99.00

Another thought...the bookcase itself doesn't look built-in. Can you move it?

I'm like you: "Guests coming!!" but don't rush things because of the guests, and don't put yourself in the corner. It's nice; the guests are coming to enjoy being with you-not to see whether your rooms are completely done. Especially-don't rush on light fixtures. It looks much better now with sectional pulled of the walls, and the art seen so much better..the ottoman seems a bit too dainty-I'd put a folded blanket on it and a tray on top, to balance things a bit and provide more function..several throw pillows and the plant, cleaning the mantel- you're ready for the guests. Difficult things like light fixtures will wait. I'm very happy your TV is NOT over the fireplace-for various reasons, but health is definitely number one. I also can't look up..and I haven't even been to military. I don't see anything wrong with the layout I must say..playing with the scale some more will help.

Do you have room for a buffet? Those lights have been around for eons- old looking style so don't go that way. Have you considered a crystal chandelier? I'm thinking that based on your earlier inspiration photos. I'm getting ready to travel til mid Feb so I don't have time to help you shop but can try and give a little help while I pack. Have you looked at upholstered parsons chairs for your table? From the get go I always imagined your place with grays, white and blush. Are you a pink girl at all?

Is this all your furniture? If so, what can be eliminated? No bulky brown "leather" couches please. Start with a general de-clutter; sell unwanted items on Craig's List and you'll have a kitty to put toward the new pieces. This type of Murphy bed might work but will put the TV too high for proper viewing. We would have a better appreciation for your space if you'd start by standing at the front door and taking pix there, then moving clockwise and shooting from each corner and mid-wall as you move around and back to the door again. We really just have a hint of the fireplace/wood stove, which should probably be your focal point.

I would like to begin saying that I love the minimalist aesthetic you have. I’m a less is more person and I don’t like random artwork for the sake of filling walls. With that said, I’d like to see more color warmth on the walls. The buttery white is making it too stark. Have you considered painting? I would try the sectional against the buffet wall to free up the window, and add your teal accents into the window treatment. Eliminate the glass table or move it between the chairs. Add more unique floor lamp lighting near the couch. The buffet can then be moved to the kitchen wall.

Not ideal, but have you tried angling the TV on the left end of the hearth where Beverly shows it above? Perhaps you could mount it slightly off the floor on an articulated arm attached to the wall right of the sliders. Is that the main entry from outside? I should think the shoe rack would do better near the entry from the garage/carport or upgrade to something better for the foyer.

The tv is 57” across, the top of the mantle is 63” and the left side of the fireplace is 54”. We considered mounting the TV over the fireplace but the height of the TV would require us to angle our heads significantly upwards, even if the TV was tilted downwards. There exists mantle mounts which lower the tv in front of the fireplace but it is out of our budget. The mantle mount also requires larger holes to be drilled and given that this is a rental apartment, we’re refraining from that option.

With the reasonable cost of tv's these days, I'd get a slightly smaller one and put it to the left on the hearth as Beverly shows. You also could ignore the bookcase on the right and get a console to place in front of the doors and place it there. If I were your landlord, I'd really appreciate your consideration of holes in the walls.

Here is a possible layout if you place the TV on a low console opposite of the fireplace.

Thanks for the suggestion @BeverlyFLADeziner. Does your layout have the couch running parallel to the sliding door? If that is the case, wouldn’t it obstruct the doorway?

@elcieg unfortunately, the bookshelf is built in so moving it is not an option. I considered moving the TV to the area you suggested but that is where we have placed our dining table. Also, the size of the couch makes not possible to place it across from the TV.

@decoenthusiaste the size of the tv does not allow us to place it to the left of the hearth (technically it does fit but is incredibly tight and juts out slightly). Regarding the shoe rack, the layout of this complex actually makes it more optimal to enter from the patio rather than the front door (leads to parking lot).

To help you we need a measured drawing of the room and the size of the couch and the table and chairs. Once you do that you might be able to figure it out yourself.

Justin, I don't know the size of the room or the size of the sofa. It's a suggestion.

I'm assuming you can slide the sofa around and test the layout, or measure the room and the sofa and see if it will work
