20" diameter or circumference? If diameter if is probably fine, but if circumference, I'd argue no way. I grew up in Zone 5 (Ohio) and I don't know how our winters compare to yours in NH, but I'm willing to bet there are a number of climbers that will be just fine planted right in the ground in your climate. I wouldn't try to plant a climber in a pot. That's just me *shrugs*. I am starting over right now and experimenting in my new climate, but I grew a climber in zone 5 that suffered hardly any dieback at all (Fourth of July). I think that being next to a house helps prevent dieback--protects from winds and keeps the plant warmer. I wouldn't plant something that thorny on a rail though if you plan to use the rail and porch regularly. I just planted Zepherine Drouhin (sic) next to my porch, partially because it is thornless, but I don't know if you can grow that one where you live. Might not be hardy enough. Good luck! Jen

Thanks for the pictures, it really helps. Though both cabinet arrangements look tasteful, I'm thinking it may not work out for our purposes. I'm already mixing both aluminum and espresso cabinets for a modern look. The third element of hanging the cabinets different ways, may indeed be too much business, for a kitchen I'm trying to stay as streamlined as possible.

I wouldn't choose any of those tiles you have. there are so many other better choices to accent your countertop. This is the house. Mostly concerned with the look of the railing. (Safety of course is first lol) so I think horizontal cables could be out. We are in Canada too - so from the back deck the view on the fireplace side isn’t as much of a concern as there is a fence (end lot then across road is school yard) but the backyard we plan to put a lot of effort into so don’t want anything too obstructive. Glass is lovely but then there’s the cleaning. It’s drawn here with spindles but if anyone has an opinion I’m all ears! Thanks
