Spacing of wood horizontal railings for deck
Comments (1)I don't think you'll find a code for horizontal rails (they're not typically used where code requires a guardrail) but if code compliance isn't an issue, typical railing spacing is "not to allow the passage of a 4" sphere" - in other words, close enough that no little kids get their melons through and stuck....See MoreDeck Railing help! Comments (12)I am wondering about the code issue. Did someone tell you it needed to brought up to code. We have a railing all across a 72’ long house it is not to code but is the original railing on a 1956 MCM ranch and has never been an issue to have to bring up to code. Any new railing would need to be to code so the railing around our pool all needed to be to code. I do agree if you need to do this just the same balusters as you have added in .BTW I live in Canada. How high is that railing that looks like 36” and code is 42” FYI...See MoreLooking for metal horizontal deck railing manufacturers.
Comments (2)Below is what I come up with on a Google search. If you 're looking for a local place, put in Google search box "metal horizontal deck railing manufacturers low maintenance (your city and state)" https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf=ALeKk027_IR_vzaXBS9KDDN5OQXLXf5xkw%3A1592034354800&ei=MoTkXvW2MI2MwbkPgdS1yAM&q=metal+horizontal+deck+rail+manufacturer+low+maintenance&oq=metal+horizontal+deck+rail+manufacturer+low+maintenance&gs_lcp=CgZwc3ktYWIQARgBMgUIIRCrAjIFCCEQqwIyBQghEKsCOgQIABBHOggIIRAWEB0QHjoFCCEQoAE6BwghEAoQoAE6BwghEAoQqwJQkglYySNg8DZoAHABeACAAagBiAGyEJIBBDEuMTWYAQCgAQGqAQdnd3Mtd2l6&sclient=psy-ab...See MoreCable deck railing
Comments (15)Yes. Timbertech Tigerwood for the deck. We used Mocha color Timbertech for some facing trim but would have preferred Espresso But out of stock. our TimberTech was in stock so went with it. It is not cheap but I suppose there are other more costly materials. (We thought of Ipe but did not want the maintenance.) Our contractor liked TimberTech but told me to stay in their premium lines like Legacy. He liked Trex too. They use a lot of TimberTech around here (Ohio) because the factory is nereby. I think TimberTech/Azek branding is extremely confusing for those in the deck market. The two companies merged a few years ago and haven’t gotten their marketing organized IMO. Railings are by KeyLink. Went with what was in stock that complimented house. (Not a lot of inventory.) Did not check pricing, just went with it. We wanted Vertical because I thought it complimented the vertical lines of the trees and did not appear to block the eye/view too much. Posts and rails are aluminum and in black. Again went with what was in stock. There are lots of colors. They are almost finished with deck so I will post a pic for you. Good luck!...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
