Comments (2)How sad - he was young, too. It's amazing how we all "know" one another through the forums but someone just stops posting and we may never know why. Thank you for letting us know....See MoreJames MacFarlane lilac
Comments (13)'James MacFarlane' is a famous lilac but there are some things you might want to know before settling on a permanent spot for it in your garden. It is not the same species as "regular" lilacs. It's a hybrid of two other species. It blooms later and doesn't have the same fragrance. It gets very big and needs a lot of space--like a small tree. The flowers are pink, not lilac, and are very pretty. Like all lilacs, it wants full sun and lots of air circulation. Not a shrub for part-shade or root competition with trees or shrubs. 'James MacFarlane' is one of the Preston hybrids, so-called because the original crosses were made by Isabella Preston at the Ottawa experiment station in Canada in the 1920s. Tho a Preston hybrid, 'James MacFarlane' was developed at the University of New Hampshire and introduced to gardeners in 1959. It became very popular and is widely available. But it needs a lot of space and a lot of sun and air circulation, like all lilacs. Hope you're happy with yours!...See MoreR.I.P. James Garner - hard to believe, somehow
Comments (7)I really liked him. He was in a Christmas movie with Julie Andrews that I loved. She was a doctor whose husband had died and he had a beloved wife in an Alzheimer's unit....See MoreRIP Sean Connery
Comments (20)I liked him in Zardoz, which is one of the novels my mother had in her book collection when I was a child. I didn't know about the slapping either, but I oppose that no matter who does it. Most often in movies, women slap men, and this is just as wrong as men slapping women. The slapper should be arrested for assault in all cases. I never understood the attraction for him in the 007 movies, but I do remember seeing him on the cover of a lot of magazines. To me, he seemed too old for the women he was with in the movies. I didn't have as much of a problem with the age difference with Cary Grant, however. Later, I came to appreciate his performance in the 007 movies and does seem to me to be the definitive Bond character, partly because of his voice. No one else can say "Bond, James Bond" the way he did....See MoreAlisande
