Need ideas to make our "great" room functional
Comments (18)Thanks for the feedback! I know a sectional will be limiting, but I can't seem to make anything else work. The doorway to the left is to the kitchen, that isn't moving. Anything I put in front of the window needs to leave a walkway to the door. Same for anything on that wall next to the kitchen. If I put anything there that is not against the wall, it needs to be out enough to have a walkway to the kitchen, which puts it too close to the FP/tv. Moving to a couch and/or loveseat is an option. I just can't seem to make that work. It always looks off balance and odd due to the kitchen doorway needing clearance. It's entirely possible I just haven't found the right combination yet. I would definitely consider adding some recessed lighting. If I end up putting in a built in along a wall, it would definitely need a light above each side. The only light currently in the room is a flush mount ceiling light centered about 3 feet in front of the window at the bottom and a floor lamp next to the 18 inch support column. Hard to make it anything but better from there! Additional thoughts/suggestions welcome! I have a really hard time with stuff like this. Lucky for me I found an app that let's me play with furniture, sure beats drawing it out each time....See MoreUpdate on our great room decorating, now about the windows....
Comments (10)Thank you for your kind words, we are very happy with how the space is progressing. We really lucked out on the rug. As I mentioned in my prior rug post, we only do inexpensive rugs due to pets. Someone suggested the bug orange box store due to ease of buying and returning and that worked well for us. The second rug I ordered had just the right combo of colors to bring it together to my liking. We definitely do not need window coverings for privacy, but on a cold winter night I think they add to a feeling of coziness. Someone asked about desired length, we will only go to the sill. I dont think I would like sheers because I will want to push them to the side during the day to see out and they will block light. I like the idea of a roller shade or a woven wood, I think some texture would be nice. My husband wants honeycomb shades, but I am not a huge fan....See Moreideas for wall behind tv

Comments (12)Hi. Could you please take a straight on photo of the dining room wall (standing back by the tv and include all the way to the refrigerator). Thanks. Here is what I recommend: In either case -larger rug -colors are not working together. There are too many woods (front door, dining set, coffee table, floor, wine bar competing with each other. Colors: blue, grey But, maybe you are just getting started. -move wine bar to another area where it can be highlighted as a wine bar. (never angle a squared off piece of furniture in a corner. Never looks good.) -simple drapes for dining a living windows. -lower tv -decor should be simple, especially around the tv. Option 1 1) Move tv to the dining room wall (if space allows). Likely, there would be no console in this scenario. 2) Move sectional to tv wall 3) Move wine bar to another room (dining room?) Option 2 1) Leave sectional where it is, but move it slightly closer to the window wall. 2) Place a chair on right side of tv 3) Console needs to be 1 1/3- 1 1/2 longer than tv. Your current console is too short. Think about whether you want to buy a console that ties you into a certain color. Rather, buy pillows and accessories to decorate. In a couple of years, easy to change out the color. 4) Move coats to dining wall. Thanks!...See Morebtydrvn
