Blooms Affected by Early Bloom Season
Comments (10)Mine are doing some of the same- I've been blaming it on the lack of rain but we did have the early heat and now cooler weather. Blooms are lower than usual, including asian and oriental lilies, some are blooming weird-never fully open and I have one yesterday where the entire flower looked fine except for one mushy ugly petal. It looked like the one petal had bloomed the day earlier than the rest and was dying back while the rest of the flower was fine. Flowers that I have had for quite awhile are shorter than usual and smaller blooms, colors on what few have bloomed not as bright as last year. It's still early bloom season, so I don't have many blooming yet-but they aren't at their best....See MoreSome first blooms ever--and other first blooms of the season
Comments (4)Here's a fairly large Double Knock Out in the front yard--in the divider between my property and the neighbor's. Haven't had time to anything with it yet this year, so its looking a bit wild and woolley--and maybe lop-sided. I'll try to get some pruning done before the season is over. : ) Light blue irises came with the property when I bought my house thirty something years ago--don't know their name, but they bloom forever (for an iris). Another iris--name unknown. Sure is lovely. Here's a terrific fully packed white peony called Festiva Maxima--love that blood-red like marking in the middle of the blooms. I read somewhere once that this old classic is a good choice for more southerly gardeners, but I don't remember why. I have 4 of them. BIG blooms. Its getting so exciting now that things are nearly ready to bloom--can't believe the buds all over the yard--have never seen so many. Oddly, however, my hybrid teas are not taking over the show like they usually do. I thought with the mild winter we had, they would do terrifically well, but it seems the shrubs and floribundas are the ones doing best. But maybe that will all change in the next few weeks. This is about 3 weeks early for my roses--any of them--to be blooming. Kate...See MoreJust a few blooms this season
Comments (13)All beautiful and just a few blooms:). I say, wanted to start saying which is my favorite, but I like them all. Have to say you multi graft w Black Purple & Rik Ni Ran is quite appealing. Nice choices. The Kenjana Yellow always is so special and the White Angel always seems to put on a show. Nice to see your seedling of Electric Plasma again. Rick...See MoreA Few Good Blooms
Comments (12)Interesting that you and Sherry both opened with the same intro! And sad that you are both experiencing similar seasons. You are so right about gardening. I had great season last year-probably best ever-this year, at least eight percent of lilies opened low in foliage or on short scapes. That being said, the ones you posted are terrific. Man of Sorrows has caught my eye before as has Mean Green. But what a clump of Mohawk Chief. Illness is rough in summer as Maryl said, especially for gardeners. Hopefully you will be better soon.
