Anyone Order from Sunshine Hollow Nursery?
Comments (7)They are in Eastern Tennessee. SUNSHINE HOLLOW 198 County Road 52 ATHENS, TN 37303 Good point about the Winters so I looked some more on their site and found this paragraph referring to the garden dirung four seasons-- Sunshine Hollow Gardens are beautiful at any time of the year: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. Each period has its own unique beauty. From the bare silhouettes of trees and the falling snowflakes of winter to the new life that bursts out in the Spring with the dogwoods, azaleas, and wildflowers. From Summer's glorious display of thousands and thousands of blooms to the crisp cool days of Fall with the reds and gold's and oranges of the leaves. All seasons have their own beauty. So obviously they have winter, hurray! Here are there directions to the Nursery- Sunshine Hollow is located in Eastern Tennessee about one hour North of Chattanooga and one hour South of Knoxville in the Great Valley which was created by the Tennessee River. Geographically speaking, it is located in one of the ridges which were caused by geological upheaval eons of years ago about halfway between the Appalachian Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau. The Gardens make a convenient day trip outing from several major cities: 3 hours from Nashville, TN; 2 and a half hours from Atlanta, GA; 3 and a half hours from Birmingham, AL; 3 hours from Huntsville, AL; 3 hours from the Tri-Cities area, TN; 2 hours from Sevierville, TN; 2 hours from Cookeville, TN....See MoreVisited Melanie Mason's DL farm this weekend
Comments (5)Hi Kitcatclub, Your post reminded of me of my visit up there. I went up to Melanie's Farm 2 summers ago and they had puppies! My daughter was thrilled with them more so than the DLs, but I loved walking the rows. We had a lovely time. I cannot make it this year, but I have on my wish list (and waiting to hit the lottery though I do not play :) Angus Pride, Dangling Participle, Borderline Crazy, Ilana Hope and Split Infinitive. Does any one grow these, and if so, what is your experience with them? Actually, Melanie is the one responsible for my becoming a DL addict. I was itching one winter weekend to do something garden related and happened across the GSDG who had a lecture on DLs and I wanted something like stella but another color and went off to pick their brains. Melanie was their speaker that meeting. I was hooked line and sinker...Enjoy your DLs! Jean....See MoreMason Jar Lid Pie
Comments (13)That would be perfect for us loners. I haven't done any canning for many years, so don't have any lids, but I think I will round up a few and try that out. Always looking for something to freeze for later. I remember my mother made the left over pie dough cookies. She sprinkled sugar, cinnamon, a little canned milk, and sometimes cocoa, over them before baking, and called them "stickies." I also made them for my children. Comments (16)I wish honeybee and aggressive weren't in the same sentence. Honeybees do sting, but only when we humans get so close to take their honey or disturb them in other ways. Confident beekeepers work in hives and harvest honey with hundreds of thousands of bees and rarely get stung. Skilled beekeepers dont always wear gloves when working in very busy hives Hornets are another story. I have been chased across the yard and into the house when I accidently disturbed a ground nest. If one wants to nurture pollinators but can't undertake the considerable work and expense of beekeeping, mason bees are wonderful. Non stinging, relatively inexpensive, also interesting to watch. Still nowhere near as fascinating or complex in their organization; mason bees build with mud, bees build geometrically perfect complex living quarters and make perfumed honey. Say mason bees are good pollinators, easy to care for and don't sting. But don't say honeybees are aggressive cause it just ain't so! idabean...See Morelindalana 5b Chicago
