Visited Melanie Mason's DL farm this weekend

I try to get out to Melanie's once or twice a season. She has a lovely place in the back of beyond (really - last mile or 2 is on a dirt road), where you can't hear a single car or truck and the views are spectacular. Her daylily beds are all right on top of the hill so there's always a breeze, even when it's unbearably hot like this past weekend. The giant coolers of water and lemonade helped, too!

If you're lucky, her dogs will be home. There are 3 blond labs that adore people and will play fetch for hours. They are the best trained and well-mannered dogs I've ever met. If you're really lucky, there'll be puppies! Squeee!

The daylily beds must cover an acre or so, between the sale beds and Melanie's breeding beds. Last year when we went, Melanie gave us a tour of her breeding beds and an impromptu lecture about breeding DLs  sheÂs very generous with advice.

We only got 3 daylilies  Sunny Aire, Buttered Popcorn and Watermelon Time  due to $$$ limitations, but we could have spent the mortgage easily! We had a great time, though, just wandering around, admiring our future purchases.

If you live in upstate New York or youÂre passing through, check out MelanieÂs farm! It's worth the trip!
