@everdebz thank you! Yes, they are new lamps :) I could remove the martini glasses from above the cabinets; they’re those Lolita hand painted glasses that I’ve collected and have been given as gifts over the years and I’m just not sure where else to go with them?

Hi Doug, IMHO, it's totally fine to paint the different floors different colors, even if you have a common wall that shares both floors (like mine). I used a darker shade upstairs (more sliders, light and 15 ft ceilings), and downstairs in my 8' ceiling bedrooms and even lower hallway, I used lighter colors. You don't really need accent walls... Maybe just take whatever color you use 2 shades darker? The lighting is going to cast shadows depending on time of day, etc., anyways, so not really necessary... If you go on Pinterest, there are so many nice combinations of color that are very popular and calming, so you can get ideas. The dust blue seems like a fairly dark gray? And you may prefer a softer/warmer gray that is not as blue? Look at the 'warm grays' in the last photo. There are some very popular shades that work well with beige and gray (greige).... Here are a few snapshots of what's on Pinterest if you need some ideas... It's nice to see them side by side (as some gray goes blue, or green or beige...). My vote would be to pick from any of their top 5 grays or greiges and you can't go wrong....

Thanks Judy. The front door is on the North side and I'm thinking of maximising it with glass (to increase the light and the light also comes through large French doors on the South side. It's in Toronto which is often grey and cold :(. Any ideas to warm it up and maximise the light gratefully received. I can't put skylights in because there are 4 floors.

In answer to Patricia the issue is that the family room wood is loved by us but i do not want that some color wood in the kitchen and hall of my dark shady wooded home.... i agree with consistency and want that ...exactly what i am striving for....but i need to choose something that goes in kitchen and hall that will complement the family room not compete...i am not a decorator not even near....but i am hating how the house goes from green tile by front door and turns to the thin plank wood then to my kitchen laminate then to family room honey colored wood.....i know my husband does not want to have the family room pulled up so i wonder if a darker wood for the rest of the house and adding a stain to the family room would make things flow?? otherwise a tile that is next to the family room....this is so vexing to me and not easy...
