Sorry, I left out the back story assuming everyone was bored with it. The general idea is that it was built in 1965 so is somewhat in the style of MCM (slab door cabs, shape of the building), but not strictly. Until a month ago, walls were dark fake wood panelling so it seems super light to me now (finally!). The original counter was rotting, so we took the opportunity to do a mini reno with pretty much no budget (hence the mismatched cabs and appliances). Took down a half wall to make the peninsula. Counters will be light wood. My comfort zone style-wise is pretty neutral and nothing too over the top (2nd pic is our main home kitchen and is indicative of my neutral style). Love the idea of a basket on the fridge- I am in love with the sisal baskets available everywhere right now. I'd just been looking at some for towel storage. I was just reading on another thread about MCM whites being less grey and more warm, but generally I'm just thinking not too cool or stark. Maddielee, Capitol White is on my list and I think that came from seeing your pic. Here are the stools. I'm hoping for something that fits under the counter as the space is really tight also trying to keep most of the wood tones light to go with what is already there. Going to work through replies: JudyG - now that I have been down there I am pretty much back to square one. The credenza is too large for the wall or how I would want to use the wall. :( I am going to check into the "goldstone" paint and try to find the SW equivalent to test out. HollyBar - The cabinetry in person is so very nice, I really feel that I need to embrace it and figure out how to lighten the mood while utilizing the built-ins. I do agree (and the decorator mentioned it as well) that I need to echo the tone of built-ins strategically. Jan Moyer - The decorator did measure and we provided him a key to our condo. He can do in any time he needs to re-check a concept. I am not a hands off person, so the measurements are for me. I will be testing out any of his suggestions while continuing to look for ideas myself. I want to be sure the end result with the decorator is "me". Tootsie - Your thought is logical and in our Maine vacation condo, that would be blocked. At this condo, the previous owner already had a wonky color. That being said, after being there, I am not going to get clever with the color and will keep the ceiling classic white like the interior of the unit. I concluded that waiting white inside and blue on the lanai, breaks up the flow between inside and outside when we open the invisible walls. BeverlyFLADeziner - I understand your point. That is just not in the budget. I need to embrace and incorporate. Joseph Corlette - Plentry of contractor options. No one paying $500 per night. Also, there are beautiful exterior stairs that I used the whole two days. We are up only two flights. There is also an elevator. There are only 16 units in the building. I never had to wait for the few times I preferred the elevator to the stairs. I think I covered it. It was an exhausting few days - two travel, two working on the condo, but we are excited. I appreciate every suggestion provided. As I wrap my head around things, I am sure I will be posting more, here or in a new thread depending. <3

The current room has no color and I think adding the blue you love in art, area rugs, upholstered furnishings and décor items can bring this room to life. The wall with the hutch feels a bit crowded to me. I would probably move the plant either to the window side of the wall or move it into the living room. Move the tall hutch closer to where the plant is now. I would remove the painting and mirror and get a new piece of art for over the sideboard. Art is very personal, so I tend not to advise people on what they should get, but I would like to see something with a bit more life than the two paintings you have. I always loved going to the Wyland gallary and looking through the seascapes from him and the other artists he chose to exhibit. ( James Coleman, William DeShazo, Walfrido Garcia, Scott Hanson, Guy Harvey, Dan Mackin, Michael Maiden, Noelito , John Pitre, Steven Power, Kim Taylor Reece, Tracy Taylor, Jim Warren ) And then I would do coordinated area carpets (not matching) with blues and runners. Get a lighter colored sofa and two upholstered chairs. Maybe a patterned rug in one of the two rooms and a more solid in the other. You may prefer softer blues A few pieces of blue decor (Vases, planters, throw pillows and you will have a stunning space.
