Paint Design Dilemma

Front door color

I have a red brick front and just had my roof redone to Estate Gray. My front door currently is reddish mahagony (I think) and is in need of a coat of paint but I'm having trouble choosing what to paint it.

Dark brown, Gray to match the new roof, something else entirely?

Also we have cream siding on the rest of the sides of the house that I plan to paint down the road and a small section of cream siding in the front that I plan to replace with brick veneer.

I wouldn't do cream as long as you have that white window surround and columns. the cream looks dingy next to it.

I'd go for this look,

the crisp white that matches your bay would look so much better. love the copper color downspouts too.

with a black or red door

And to modernize, try a door like these. tried to plug in the white siding so you could see.

these doors are great too. of course this is white brick w/black shutters. I like the updated portico as well

Or try a warm gray color. do the darker on the siding and lighter gray along the fascia. Iron Ore, kendall Charcoal, Urbane bronze,

This reminds me of that house that had two front doors from having been a duplex; remember that one? If there's a main door and French doors on the same facade, there's nothing wrong with having the front door in a distinctive color to act as a signpost. If they are old french doors with super-narrow stiles then all the more reason to treat them with the window sash color. Casey

So for East facing, you can use green or brown colors. If you plan on keeping the rest of your house colors as is, then I would change your door to a brown color. It will help give your house a "pop" of color, update it to modern, but also keep the charm of your green and creme color scheme. Need help picking shutter, garage door and front door colors!!

This is a recommended color from SW for Mindful Gray…homburg gray. I would do this on the shutters and the garage doors and leave the wood door as is. The two middle windows shouldn’t have shutters as the won’t fit appropriately, but you are not painting the siding and the darker outlines of the shutters will show if you don’t replace what was there. Personally, would like the house with out shutters and would probably paint the siding and garage doors and have no shutters at all.

Steps should be wider than the doorway, do a cobalt blue for both door and storm. The door looks so tiny next to the windows. Trim it out. Paint the foundation dark green and then add low growing, evergreens for the foundation. Euonymus is a good plant. Remove the shutters...they don't fit the windows.

I hadn't even considered that the door was dated... or that I should paint the fascia in a different color. I sense project creep coming on :).

I actually have someone coming to paint the fascia and portico in a week but I had told them I'd be getting white paint. More food for thought regarding painting the portico something else. I'll keep you posted on whether I get adventurous.

The brick veneer should match the brick on the house or it will look like the builder ran out of materials. Do the cream siding and portico in white (less money) and then reassess the color of your door. @Beth H is right - cream looks dingy near white.

I would look at a deep pine green or navy for the door in addition to black. Dark contrast in your front door with your clean brick and white trim will be dramatic. OR, you can save money for a whole different door style as @Beth H suggested. The oval glass feels more Victorian than your classic Colonial home.

Your brick looks great. It’s obvious it’s been power washed.

No brick veneer and this is my absolute faveortie colr for siding with brick and I like the way all trim is also the same.I actually never like gray with brick. After all that exterior is done some really great foundation plantings would be a huge improvement

Pretty house!

I’d take into consideration changing the bright white bay window surround as a part of your project. You’ve got white trim, white bumpout, cream siding, dark front door, red brick, and a gray roof. That’s too much for me.

You can't go wrong with a black door here. Either soft black like Iron Ore that was mentioned, or classic black. And yes to covering the siding with a stone veneer or dark siding to contrast the brick. The veneer is not a huge job. Pretty house!

For doors I love a glossy black, glossy red, or glossy green, just like you see on the doors in London.

Or if you like to be daring, a glossy cerise or pomegranate, and you can pick up those colors in your landscape plantings.
