Paint Design Dilemma Kitchens

Paint color for cherry cabinets

We have 20-year old shaker cherry cabinets. We recently replaced the countertop (Spectrum Quartz – Pristine) and backsplash (Mystique Bianco) and installed tile on the floor (Anatolia - Belgian Linen - MIST) to brighten and modernize a pretty dark kitchen. We are planning to paint the walls in Stonington Grey HC-170 with a super white trim.

I would like to keep the cherry as is, but some of the cabinets need a refresh, especially the bottom ones.

We are considering painting the peninsula, and possibly the entire bottom row in grey. I would love recommendations for paint colors. I fear everything blending too much together. So far we are exploring:

BM Sterling Silver 1461 (is that too purple?)

BM Stormy Monday 2112-50

BM Gibraltar Cliffs 1587 (that seems too dark to main the entire bottom row)

Any other suggestions or advice about the options above? Thx.

big mistake to paint.. your kitchen is not that dark. dont muck it up. if anything get new frames and order some glass for two high up wall cabs left of range. everything looks quite nice. note glass doors below

This is just a suggestion--but I was at a model home (condo) today with my mom and the decorator used two colors: BM alpaca and fairmont oak. They are on the cards that use 7 colors. The fairmont oak was a very warm taupe--but not a color I would have chosen off the card. I thought the alpaca was washed out looking, though. Another great taupe I have used in my home in the past is bar harbor beige. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures of either to show you.

I will add to my dilemma: I have beautiful Cherry Doors, one of which is very near to the kitchen. I am one of the minority who really likes the warm reddish gold even slightly orange stain color on wood. Since the Bella Cera Messina Colored Acacia Flooring won't be 'in' the kitchen but visible when outside looking 'towards' the kitchen, I am taking that into account. I usually do not prefer dark stain but in order to avoid the mismatched stain look, I believe I will have to go with one of the darker pigments in the Bella Cera flooring for the Clear Alder cabinets to create a contrast. I searching for the perfect common room paint color in the SW line to tie it all together. Would really appreciate feedback, suggestions, and comments, although my pride is slightly bruised already.

I agree that the wall color is off and would go for something that is more of a soft white with less pink in it. I know there is a pinky beige in your counter but you don't have to bring out all of the countertop tones and I think anything beige is going to clash with the cherry. Our old kitchen had cherry cabinets and Ben Moore maritime white walls. I loved the walls so much, when we got our new kitchen, we had cabinets made in that color.

Thank you for the comments. I just contacted another expert who said they would be able to refinish (concern is that the center panel is veneer, not real wood...).

We'll investigate that first. I tend to agree, I like that that wood is giving warmth to the room.

How about the peninsula? I think the back and side could benefit from being painted. It has a bead board pattern I really dislike and I would like to cover with a plain panel.

Excellent advice. Judging just from the photograph -- which we all know isn't always truthful -- they look good.

Another vote for not painting. In choosing a paint color, even for the walls, grey is not only going (gone) out of style, but not the best with cherry or your floors, which look to lean warm. Try a light sage green.

Your wood is beautiful. Don’t paint it. As others mentioned above, just clean and, perhaps, polish the cabinets and they will look new. You can add a lot of color and interest with rugs. Nothing else is needed.

Here is the peninsula. Keep that cherry as well? Or spice that up a bit? (I also prefer to have a flat surface instead of bead board.)

I wouldn't want to wind up with mix'n'match unless no other options. Would change that outlet to a color that blends in.

keep the tongue/groove.....it is hiding any possible dings with the established patine and texture w grooves. you dont want a flat dark painted surface. what you have is much better. why dont you spend time getting some nicer stools rather than messing with a good thing...namely cherry cabinets.
