Are your floors stained on-site hardwood or did they come pre-finished? I’m asking because I really like how your kitchen has turned out - and I’m thinking about being a copycat (as my mom used to tell me - “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery“ - every time my younger sister would “copy” me - ex. I cut 6” off my hair - 4 days later my sister got the same exact haircut). I might have missed it - but what did you go with for your backsplash? Oh - and I know that you already had your countertops but . . . Are they quartz or marble? Everything really looks nice. I may go a with a little “moodier” blue on my island - but I really like yours too. i just looked back through your photos - the blue island has so many looks depending upon light!

I prefer all cool colors or all warm colors in a room, but that's me. If you have a combination of the two, that's when it gets tricky. Just to give you an idea: here are some warm colors: off-white, sand, beige, tan, brown, olive green, orange, golden yellow, gold, peach. Here are some cool colors: bright white, taupe, black, gray, purple, royal blue, cool red, pine green, forest green, Kelly green. As others have said here, all colors in the room need to be considered - floor, ceiling, walls, the works. What are the other colors in the home? The entire room needs to have a sense of unity. Items do not exist on their own, but need to get along with everything else in the room. Some paint stores and websites have full room testers so you can see what the room looks like with the various colors. Call paint stores or look on their websites for help - they are there for you. Your floor is currently a warm color. Your plans for your cabs and counters will be cool.

Hi. Some nice tones! Questions: 1) What are the grey planks in the one photo? 2) What color is the living room paint? First, I would try your living room color. Not sure if that works. With the darker tones going on, I would recommend a light colored paint.

I'm with mytwocents -- you will be shocked how much it costs to paint cabinets, especially those with as much detail as yours have! Save the 10-15k to put toward your new kitchen in five years! I sympathize with your cherry overload after seeing the floors -- that's just too much. I love cherry cabinets, but my floors are light gray and my counters are near-white, so it's not overwhelming. Still, I think you're best to tough it out. Get a couple fabulous rugs (gray and trendy or colorful and cheering) to keep some of the cherry at bay, and treat yourself to a matching mixer or tea kettle or set of new towels (or maybe spend $400 for a nice black faucet to see how you like that and to get a fancy feel) and put the rest in the penny jar.
