Thank you so much for your reply! I tried to get some pictures of the white stuff but I had wiped most of it off and the stuff that was left did not come out well. Not sure you will see it on here... there is only a small area visible. I did repot it when I first got it and I have to admit I did not really check the rhizome... I guess that was a beginner's error If it is a fungus what do you suggest??? Thank you so much for all your help!!!

K. It's hard for me to tell, but 2 or 3 of your pictures make me suspect that something toxic misted over them. Things like an overly strong fungicide or epsom salt concoction sprayed on the leaves, household chemicals like lysol, or a neighbor spraying for weeds (known as herbicide drift, which can drift many hundreds of feet). It affects the newer growth because it is more sensitive, whereas the older growth remains normal. If this is true, then your plants should grow out of it on their next batch of leaves. But, i cannot confirm what i've written above and i'm sure there are more possible causes, but everything i've listed has happened to me personally. Hopefully what you have is only a temporary setback. Steve

Great work, Photo! Whisks are a good idea. I've stuffed bigger whisks with bulbosas from time to time. There are quite a few places on line that I have bought plants from, but since we get a real winter (it's about 32F now, expecting a snow, with a blizzard across the mountains and into the plains to our east), and the tillandsia sellers are in California and Florida mostly (I think Plant Oddities is in Tennessee?), I'm waiting to order anything until maybe April 1st. I note your profile tells me you are in an area that gets winter, too (I used to live in Tulsa). However, this give you plenty of time to do research on line, and several online sellers have email lists you can sign up for to get ideas. As for the brown tips problem Kelly is having, it seems you are doing everything okay (unless maybe you are dunking your plant in tap water; filtered or fresh-water aquarium or rain/snow water is better). It may be that your office is just too dry. If you or any of your colleagues have the sniffles, sinus problems or the like, that may be an indication of too-dry air. If Tillandsias liked terrarium settings, I'd suggest that, but maybe you could figure out a way to mount the tilly so that it is above water (say, sitting in a shot glass -- depends on size of plant, of course -- then sitting that on a bed of gravel that is in a saucer -- hey, maybe use a decorative tea cup and saucer! Keep gravel moist. Perhaps also dunk the tilly a little more frequently. Paul Isley (Rainforest Flora) says (in a YouTube video) he just dunks his tillandsias, shakes them off and puts them back on display. Of course, he has greenhouses and a huge stock, so most plants probably are dunked on the same schedule you use. I ordered plants from them this year and instructions for some said to soak them immediately upon unpacking, but I knew that wasn't right for some of them (crocata, for example). I emailed them asking about this and Isley himself wrote back (or his assistant did via his email address; still a neat thing!) and said the plants are rather dry in the greenhouse, so he warns new buyers to soak just in case. People who buy in person can ask; new mail-order customers we hope have done some research. So I think the problem you may need to solve is humidity -- without the tillandsia being constantly wet. Let us know what you decide to try :)

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! Rob B, i have checked its mealy bug free and has an extensive healthy root structure too. Im gonna think about it some more and maybe give it to my sister i have a very hard time throwing plants away haha. Rina, i too keep them on the drier side but i think at most they go without water for 3 weeks then i submerge the pots and let them soak for like 10 minutes. I live in Belgium so the weather here is very mild. Thank you for posting the pics. I love that venosa ive been trying to get my hands on one for a while but it hasnt crossed my path yet. Your haw on the right in the bottom right picture seems to be the same species as mine might this specific species me more prone to drying tips? I have a few other haws most similar to this one are my limifolia and zebra haworthia and only the zebra has a few dry tips but only on the oldest leaves and none at all on the pups unlike this one... Karen, yeah ill hang on to it for a bit longer. ive placed it on the bottom shelf so it'll be less of an eyesore to me :P and its more shaded there too. Barb, ill give that a shot maybe more water and a more shaded spot will help Would be a real bummer if it was cuz of dryness like ive said ive had this plant for a few years now and the care hasnt drastically changed i think same water schedule, soil, placement etc... i also have a few propagations of this plant that receive the same care and they dont show any dry tips... very puzzling :( I wish plants could regrow broken off parts like lizards :P so they dont become so unsightly
