If you can do so without major disruption to your plans, I would put off planting until the spring. Without knowing the pot size, I'm guessing you're going to have to do some root pruning, and you definitely do NOT want to do that in the fall! It'll be just fine in the pot, although I would place it in a cool shed or unheated garage through the winter to protect the roots from excessive cold. Site preparation is important, as peaches DO NOT like extended wetness. What is your site like? If it doesn't drain well, consider building a raised bed of six to eight inches, perhaps six feet across or so. There are a variety of materials you could use to hold the bed up, like Trax lumber and angle brackets, decorative cement pieces, etc. Dig the hole at least twice as big as the pot, and twice as deep. They prefer slightly acid soil, and sandy loam is the best. Amend with mushroom compost, pine bark mulch, etc., and sand or perlite if necessary to enhance looseness. Are you going to need irrigation during the summer months? Then this is a good time to install a dripline to the site from an outside faucet or water valve. When you remove the roots from the pot, chances are that you will see roots wrapping around the perimeter of the pot. This is not the time to be gentle...grit your teeth and trim them all so that they will grow straight -- especially the tap root. If you don't, they will continue to grow circular and could eventually strangle themselves and kill the tree. This is why you need to do this in the spring after it has leafed, because the tree is in "growth mode" at that time. This time of year it needs the energy stored in the roots for the approaching winter. Good luck! -Bruce

Probably Lesser peach tree borer. Spray the limbs with an insecticide and visit this page bellow and click on any image to enlarge. The enlarge pic can be clicked on to open an article on the subject. You will also have peach tree borer. This is an insect that girdles the tree at ground level. You need to treat for both, They attack all stone fruit trees. I have two kinds of fig trees I planted this year. I put some by mistake in full sun and some in partial shade. the one in partial shade are growing and look very good. The one in full sun has its leaved curl up and look sad during the day sun and heat. I figured out that the trees were shipped to me bare foot. Bare foot trees has its roots shocked up and need recovery. I water the ones in full sun daily. When the sun goes away the leaved come back normal. I figured that the leave curling is a self-defense for imbalance between the root not supplying enough water and the leaves in 100 degree heat losing too much water. When the root system establishes itself this problem will disappear. I have one tree shipped to me in container and it is full sun and has no problem at all because its roots are intact. Now I learned my lesson not to buy trees from any nursery selling bare foot trees.Pay a little more for the shipping and give your tree one year advantage. Believe or not my eggplants had the same problem and I kept watering it twice a day and the problem disappeared. I have abundant eggplant crop I just donated 40 eggplants to the soup kitchen. My water bill doubled but it still $120 for the quarter. The summer in our area was very hot and dry.

Aqua, so we are to take for granted then that you are over-wintering your geraniums and the present plants are going to make a re-appearance next spring. Your problem has bits of what could be a light problem. Does your plants receive good full sun and even if it does get rained on, good drainage should not interfere with it getting over-watered. Slow production of bloom might suggest too you are feeding your plants not the right kind of food. A fertilizer with a higher middle number to help the plant produce bloom is recommended. Miracle Gro is one specified for most plants. A couple tablespoons of superphosphate (0/26/0) mixed into the soil around the roots might push it to produce better. A feeding of something that would be better put on a lawn---with a high nitrogen value might be cause enough to deny bloom....but give you increased foliage. Perhaps, you have mixed with the potting soil (I assume you did use potting soil) some enriched compost. Compost is noted for having a high nitrogen value. It should always be mixed with the present soil wherever it is used....including the bedding plants.
