Need some ideas on how to decorate my dining room

So this is my dining room right now. The frames on the table were hanging on each side of the black cabinet. And I’m to decorate the wall without being too matchy machy but still bring some balance on each side so I thought I’d do two frame on the left and tall plant on the right. With the small frame on the right, I’m thinking I should bring the table’s color to that wall. What do you think guys? Also I’ll be changing the curtains into blue velvet..
Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks

Your rearrangement of the seating is a huge improvement. For balance, you really need a longer couch instead of that dinky loveseat. Depending on budget, I'd keep the two black chairs (if they're Ikea's Poang chairs, I know they're comfortable) because they're neutral and allow great flexibility. When you do a gallery wall, don't use those frames with multiple openings for snapshots or anything like that cluster you have now. Choose your very best candid shots; remember, this is your artwork so it should be compelling. You can create a cohesive gallery wall by framing all the photos the same, or by converting them all to black and white or sepia tone. It's pretty inexpensive now to have them printed on canvas and stretched. One of my favorite uses of family photos is this:There are some articles on Houzz about creating gallery walls. The trick is to keep your grouping tight, to vary the sizes and orientations of frames, and to arrange them in a way that creates balance and movement. Houzz doesn't seem to be working right now. faboushi926, I think everyone has good intentions here but reading all the above (including my own comments) I can see you getting overwhelmed with the differ view points/opinions. This is your room, your going to live with it and should feel like when you walk in the room it puts a smile on your face. Go with your gut, do some research (I found pinterest to be helpful to stir up ideas), talk to someone who you trust and knows you and what you like to help you (I don't have an eye for decor and my sister helped me give some direction). Also, take your time! There is no rush to have everything done in a day, week, or month. I have lived in my place for almost a year and not done decorating/adding furniture. Good luck!

How about mirroring the back of your china cabinet and lowering the chandelier to reflect in the mirrors and add more brilliance to your dining room? Consider flipping your living and dining rugs. You need a more classic one with that furniture and chandy. Since you apparently hope to replace the set eventually, you might try "ghost coating" it with gel stain. It doesn't require sanding and all that effort. Some don't think it is ideal for a long term solution, but I've seen it done very well and it will certainly update things. DIY videos on YT will help you decide.

Curtains would be a good idea. Even though you have blinds for privacy, curtains make the windows look finished. A little eyeliner besides the mascara. I would not do a colored curtain here. Curtains are just to darn expensive to have to switch out when your color palette changes. I would suggest white or off white, whichever you prefer in a silk or silk-like fabric, and get a marvelous trim for the edge. The edge trim can be in a white and black or whatever color you want to take from your rug or elsewhere in the room. I would not do a curtain trim in gold here because I see 4 windows, for 8 panels, that would be a lot of gold. You want tasteful gold embellishment in a space, not Liberace in Las Vegas. Here are some examples of trimmed curtains. Buy the plain curtain, and then buy the trim of your choice, and buy extra trim to embellish throw pillows, and buy coordinating different scale trim for other throw pillows. Another curtain option is a white curtain with a subtle pattern woven or printed on it.

With the Asian china cabinet I would stick with gold frames and continue the Asian vibe. Why are you choosing blue velvet for the fabric here? What does that relate to? Can you switch the Windsor chairs for a more formal style suitable to the china cabinet? Have you considered using a pedestal on the right with an Asian urn or vase?

I have not considered a pedestal with an urn or ginger vase. Thank you for the option. I am really not sure with the blue velvet. What would you suggest? With the chair, we are going to get a formal one in the future. Thank you very much.

The chandelier is undersized for this room so I have enlarged it.

Consider framed art on both side of the china cabinet.

No candleholder hurricanes close to the drapery even if they are battery operated.

I like your thinking. The two to the left of the cabinet look like the correct size and configuration. The solo pic on the other wall seems too small.

I agree that a larger chandelier would be great. I like an eclectic look. Why not windsor chairs, an Asian cabinet, and blue velvet?

Please consider placing the cabinet on a corner or the left side of the wall instead of in the middle.

China cabinets of this size do not get placed diagonally across a corner.

The Asian cabinet is the star of the room. The table and chairs are less “formal” so I would suggest keeping a table cloth and fabric chair back covers on permanently to get the furniture feeling more in line with the fabulous cabinet. For window treatments, I would keep it simple and sheer. Again, the Asian cabinet is a knockout piece and everything else needs to complement it.

OMGoodness no tablecloth or chair covers. The room is eclectic and different styles can work together. Don't turn this into 'granny's dining room'. Next, you'll want doilies!

I would shop second hand for some chairs. The velvet is too formal for the current ones. Can you afford lined silk drapes?
