I'm out! Who cares?
Comments (42)I'm stunned at how polite folks are on this forum! In other forums, people don't take offense until the language gets worse than a drunken sailor's! There was no offense taken. It was merely an attempt to get clarity about all the points being made. That is best done through pointing out differences. That is not offensive. That is not personal. Instead it is a way of honing communications so it is most accurate and most clearly understood among all participants. That is critical discourse and that leads to greater understanding. I appreciate all the points of view being expressed here. It's a fun topic, I think...carry on.... What is less fun is gmp's point about how many people are not as well off as they were a few years ago and struggle to make ends meet. As another gal is posting in the forum about redoing her kitchen and going over budget, going with the latest, greatest trends can and often is the most expensive way to go and may not be affordable. The good news is we can still create beautiful spaces, even on a budget. The better news is we are only at our most creative when we struggle the most. Learning to make do with what we have is a great way to think outside the box and achieve creative solutions to difficult situations....See MoreFinally moved and I'm homesick, ugh!
Comments (48)Regarding moving the cats, i too have been involved in trap and release for 10 years. I have a great group of friends and we all do it. I've probably trapped and spayed/neutered over 100 cats on my own and then add in what my friends did and that's several hundred cats we've had fixed. The two particular cats in my card were fixed 2 1/2 years ago and I love them very much. They love and trust my husband and me as well, but just don't want to be touched. Sometimes i think it's best when outdoor cats don't let you touch them because there are mean people out there who want to cause them harm. A single man purchased our house and my best friend actually knows him. While he's a nice guy, my friend says he's not an animal person. One of our neighbors recently moved so the house is empty and the other closest go out of town all the time so leaving them behind wasn't an option. Also, I love these cats and would worry they wouldn't be cared for like I would care for them. I literally shovel them out in winter and don't think many others would. The thought of trapping and bringing these two cats with me was tearing me apart because inknownthey love their yard etc but I had to bring them. I had a custom shed made that is half fenced in and half enclosed. I trapped one yesterday and one today. There are no words how hard it was. My heart was breaking as the one just cried and cried. They are both as secure as I can make them, have warm beds and food but I know they are stressed and unhappy. The shed was quite costly and was the best i could think of. I did not want to stress my indoor cats out as they hate and will not accept the one outdoor cat. I have been praying hard that they adjust soon and forgive me and learn to trust me again. I will wait awhile before I let them out to roam free as I don't want them to run away. That will take awhile so they realize this is where they get fed. Any other suggestions on how to make them happy are welcome. I am actually feeling a little better as far as the home sickness. I think the anticipation of trapping those two kitties was getting the better of my nerves....See MoreDated vs. dated. Condition and "discernment"
Comments (31)Of course, but the likelihood that the house on the right which is dated is pretty clearly painted within the last ten years at least, clean and not battered. I don't have pictures of my parents garage or basement, but if I did, I would have posted them. They had the garage floor mopped weekly, the furnace, water heater, and A/C while not brand-new are maintained with maintenance schedules attached and the roof is brand new. The pictures of the house on the left show a dirty basement, worn out utilities and a garage that was drywalled and never ever painted in 40 years. You can see in a number of the above pictures of the house on the right (especially if they were bigger--but it's clear in the bathroom photo). That the bathroom ceiling on the left was probably painted when the house was built and Never since. It Hasn't been my experience that Appearances are *that* deceiving that the house on the left would be pristine on all the surfaces and falling apart infrastructure-wise, and the house on the right would be worn out and dirty on the surface and the model of careful maintenance of the infrastructure. Sometimes you can be fooled, but I think that's even more likely where the surfaces were all updated and heavily staged, to make it more appealing for quick sale with quick coats of paint and "flash". So while I understand what you are saying, I don't really agree that it is Usually the case that appearances are *that deceiving....See MoreClose-up Christmas - wrapping
Comments (46)I'm thoroughly enjoying this post - love Mtn's suitcases and her DH's originality. These are some of the presents DH wrapped, you can see the elegant brown wrapping paper with his custom calligraphy. Notice the large white one? The one covered in paper towels with the crude lettering on the side? He put this under the tree after I went to bed on Christmas Eve and he made sure that it was the last one opened. Under the paper towels was a brown cardboard box with round holes in it from Longfield Gardens, the kind they use to ship flower bulbs. He reminded me not the shake the box and I assumed it was full of bulbs packed in peat and dirt. I thought it a little odd because we had recently planted a hundred or so bulbs and I was not looking forward to planting more in the middle of the winter. I opened the box and it was full of styrofoam peanuts, the kind that fly up and stick to your clothes and hands. My grand daughter immediately dug in and giggled when she discovered that they clung to her arms and belly. There was another, smaller box at the bottom and inside was a beautiful tsavorite necklace and a little note that said he had finally found a birthstone for me that was prettier than the traditional garnet. He was quite pleased (me too) with his little charade....See MoreKswl
