Island electrical outlets -- what are my options?
Comments (15)Plug mold, and other outlets, must be designed into the plan from the beginning. They take up room. You can add filler strips for the outlets to occupy between cabinets. Or you can notch drawers. Or you can lower the location of all of the top drawers to expose enough face frame to have plug mold. Or you can void a top drawer for the face to drop down and expose the outlets. But this all had to be planned for by the KD during the design phase....See MoreKitchen Island Waterfall Mishap
Comments (40)What an improvement without the legs on the island! Hope you get a refund from the fabricator. I always feel bad because I know they worked hard, but he should have realized he was out of his depth working with this high end material and passed on the job. I am also applauding you for keeping the backsplash! Right now everyone is focused on the very strong pattern and contrast, but it will become a focal point once the installation is complete and the room has been styled. Natural stone can really be used as a work of art in some cases and I’m sticking to my original opinion that it will look even better when everything else is in place! Make sure you post pictures when it is complete!...See Moreflush mounted kitchen waterfall outlet question
Comments (6)It doesn't have to be at the end, in the waterfall. That would ruin the effect, for me, and I'd choose a different option. Is there an overhang on one side? If not, the outlet could be in the cabinetry that faces out. Personally, I'd use plug mold underneath the stone on the kitchen side. Or, a pop up outlet in the countertop....See MoreKitchen island waterfall edge vs more seating?
Comments (34)Oh yes, lighting is very important for sure! I am using all LED there, and making sure that it will be 3000K throughout, so that it will be bright and warm. Going back to the island though, if I don't do a waterfall edge, is it worth building it up to a thicker edge? The cost is significant, but doable. But people are telling me that hardly anyone will notice the difference between 1.25" and 2" in the countertop thickness but myself.... so it's not worth the extra cost. What do you think?...See Moregreenhouze
