I bought a fixture for a remodel that is supposed to be installed down. We hated the way it put hard shadows on our faces in the mirror, so we turned it up and it bounces tons of ambient light all over the bathroom from a semi-gloss white painted ceiling. Looks way better and lights much better. The shades are frosted glass, which may help throw light around a bit more as well. I wouldn't try this with solid shades or cones, however, may not be enough lighting elsewhere in the bath.

Wow this is good to know. I realy thought there was a difference. Often I find I am not observant enough about things and regret later something that was obvious to everyone else. I hope this makes sence.

They look good together! I despise matching sets of things; it looks very builder-ish.

I feel your pain because I live in an 80 year old building and am not allowed to add electric to certain concrete wall areas and ceilings. Instead, my contractor bumped the wall out by an inch or two and ran wiring between the new bumped out drywall and the concrete wall. It allowed us to add six sconces to the living room where there are no overhead lights and none allowed. Could you do this to the area of the wall where you want the sconces hung? I'm curious what the current lighting scheme is in the bathroom and if you really need sconces. I can only imagine that battery operated ones are not so attractive. Were it not in a wet area, there are many attractive plug in sconces. Any pics of the space?
