Exterior siding and curb appeal

I’m looking for ideas on what to do above the front window. We’re planning to have siding replaced including vinyl cedar shake but I’m unsure of how to handle the space above the window. Any other siding or curb appeal ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You could do vinyl board & batten in the gable.

I would do the gable the same as the rest of the house, so you dont have that two toned color there anymore.

Love the house. Will the new roof be gray? Lots of color options with gray roofs. Is the brick shown all of it? If so, I'd probably remove it since it's not adding much interest. I don't have color recs for the gray siding. You just have to get sample cans to test some out. Personally, I wouldn't go too dark. A soft, dove gray would be pretty with white trim. Tons of options for door color, including red. Your shutters are actually too small for the double windows. Each shutter should be half the window's width. Up to you but a wide trim around the windows would be another choice. One thing you might think about is a garage door with windows across the top that mimic the panes in your other windows. Would be really nice.

Glad to hear that mid century has some appeal. The main upside I see is that this entrance facade lends itself to a midcentury modern upgrade. Midcentury featured materials (wood, brick, etc) in honest and straight forward ways. Natural wood siding on the upper gable end, a midcentury entrance (door, more natural wood, lighting, and numerals) are relatively inexpensive upgrades. I will try to share the look of the materials I have in my mind.

Hmmm, I really don't think the mock up by houssaon makes the house look better, so definitely don't paint the brick a light color. I don't love the brick with the roof, so what if you painted it a darker color? In this pic, the body of the house is shingles so ignore that, just the color. Definitely add some interest between the windows. Even if you don't paint the brick, paint the garage doors darker to blend better with the brick. I had garage doors that were high contrast with the body of my house. My dear friend said it was like two beady eyes staring out. I painted them the same color as the house, dressed them up with some hardware and it definitely looks better. Ideally you could replace them with wood look doors but I think your money is better spent elsewhere if you paint them. What zone are you in? That would allow better advice on plantings. I feel you need something large and evergreen to keep the interest in winter.

I don't know what that ivy is either, but it's gone now! We'll also have the roof fixed and clean. It's a slate roof so I don't think it needs replacement yet, but a cleaning and repairs sorely needed. Can anyone recommend a program or an app where I could play with color options for the shutters, door, deck etc? I am not very good at these things and don't use photoshop but if there is another app I could download I'll learn how to work it! I think that may be the best way for me to visualize things..

I would square up the garage door trim.

Remove all the shutters.

Depending on the siding style choice,

I would do the whole house in the same siding, no contrast.

clapboard would be nice.

Board & Batten requires a seam, suitable, I guess, but you'll have a small seam at the gable peak.

I would also paint the ceiling in the porch a very pale blue with a Bright Fresh Door color to draw attention the the entrance to your home.

Overgrown and bedraggled shrubs bug me. I’d do some judicious trimming of all foundation shrubs and especially the big one to the right of the front door.

Then I’d remove the bed and everything in it on the left side of the sidewalk. I don’t like the barrier/tunnel vibe. You have a real nice sidewalk - let it be seen! Maybe leave one trimmed shrub on the left side right at the porch - I can’t see what’s there.
