Are any of your other boxes ready to fledge? You need to let Mom come feed it. Put it in a bush near where you found it where you can keep an eye on it. Can it fly at all? We need to know more like how old the babies in the other boxes are. It needs it's Mom Put the cat in the house. If it can't fly and you cant put it in a box you can fashion a nest out of a fruit (like strawberries come in) container with soft dry grasses and fix in a high bush or tree branch so Mom can tend to it. Any area with a thick amount of HOSP i recommend you have inbox traps and a groud repeating trap. I do not use sparrow spookers - i instead use gilbertson boxes. Most HOSP are not drawn to this kind of box and it works out great for the EABL and TRES I have. If a HOSP decides to claim a box i just put in the gilbertson trap and catch him, then i put him into the repeating trap and lure more HOSP into the repeating trap. Its not your fault, we cant babysit our boxes 24/7 so just do your best to eliminate the predators (HOSP) in your area as best you can and hopefully one day you will be HOSP free

Jen, they usually wait until nobody's looking LOL. Sometimes they peek out for the longest time, and we watch and watch for days. The minute we take a break, Poof, gone, like you said! Other times, they fledge very quickly. I once watched from the house as all 5 youngsters fledged while a hawk was nearby; I believe the parents panicked and frantically called them out. They must know best, as they all fledged and survived fine. But it sounds like you might get another chance to watch! Don't disturb them near fledging time, so they don't fledge before they are really ready; they will be very vulnerable if they cannot fly. Nice set, it's really fun watching the young ones, isn't it? I especially love watching the woodpeckers trying to figure their way around the feeder.
