Does anyone know how I can feed a baby blue bird. he still has some down and is almost ready to try to fly.

I have 3 nesting boxes and I can't put him in just any box in fear of messing up another nest.

I found this bird at my back door and I didn't want my cat to have an early lunch.

Is there any way I can feed him until he is ready to fly off.

Are any of your other boxes ready to fledge? You need to let Mom come feed it. Put it in a bush near where you found it where you can keep an eye on it. Can it fly at all? We need to know more like how old the babies in the other boxes are. It needs it's Mom Put the cat in the house. If it can't fly and you cant put it in a box you can fashion a nest out of a fruit (like strawberries come in) container with soft dry grasses and fix in a high bush or tree branch so Mom can tend to it. Let us know. also read "help I found a baby bird" at the top of this forum.

Cecilia, i should have thought of you and taken it to the spring swap but i feared it would fry in the car. Yes, there is a little white at the very center but it's hardly noticeable. i have two photos of the flowers - may have to post them sepertly. As for color: On the H.R.S. colour chart it is Fan 2 - Red - Purple Group # 67 A or B (some of both) I also have 'Botanica's ROSES'book, (it's about two inches thick with ID photos of amost 2000 roses) and on page 591 is a photo of one called 'Mr. Bluebird' my rose bonsai looks just like that photo. I agree with above. Male Indigo Bunting. I love seeing them at the feeder, especially with gold finches....they remind me of blue and yellow Easter eggs. Poor little guy.. : (

Hi Bethan. Nice plants. I love the pink edges on the leaves. I'm not one of the more experienced growers here, but I've been helped by many and follow the stories of plants in trouble. It's much easir to diagnose a plant's problem if we know the climate/area you're in. And you'll be asked questions and told a few tips on things from the photos. Good photos by the way. As I indicated I'm no expert, but maybe the problem could be stress from the move? Generally it's advised not to have plants double potted as it creates a lot of moisture sitting around the bottom of the roots, which succulents don't like. Questions - what potting mix are they in, how often do you water and how much, eg a little bit or until it flows out the bottom. Other more experienced growers should chime in. I wouldn't repot yet, if they suspect a root problem they will probably ask you to check the roots for rot and guide you from that. Hope it all works out :-) Helen

Harvey I agree about the light. I used to grow mine with all my other Vandas untill I noticed it getting a bit pale. Now that I give it very bright but diffused light (behind white polycarb panels) it’s much happier.

I see they brought up the "great links and resources" for you. I hope this baby is doing well. You can get Meal worms at any PetSmart or wax worms at most bait shops, just be sure to smush a little so they are dead upon feeding them. Please let us know what is going on with this baby.
