Is pictures lining a hallway out of 'style?'
Comments (18)1) Regarding what's "in style," who cares? The only person who can make that decision for your house is YOU! Love pictures in a hallway? It's in style! Love roosters in the kitchen? It's in style! I really think that the people who pooh-pooh something as "dated" are people who make money off those of us who have to feel we have to change our decorating every season. 2) The new Martha Stewart magazine, a special decorating issue, shows a very interesting alignment for hanging pictures horizontally. I flipped through it very quickly before I threw it in my grocery cart, so I'm describing it from memory: I believe she (ok, her assistants!) placed a strip of wide blue painter's tape along the wall and then aligned the tops of different sized frames (tho i think they were all black, for consistency) to the bottom of the tape, so they all lined up at the same level. Then there were more frames whose bottoms aligned with the top of the tape. And then the tape came off and everything was spaced nicely. Very cool! If you have a lot of framed pictures, this gives you a collage look, too....See MoreEntry hallway runner - what size/style would fit best?
Comments (3)Thanks, Jan! I just snapped a couple additional photos showing the area at the front entry in relation to the front hallway where the runner is + a length shot of the runner. I measured from the door to the wall where the hallway starts and it’s 72 in. The length of the door across (not counting the molding on the sides) is 36 in. exactly. And the widest I could probably go without interfering with the air vent is 48 in. But i’m afraid to get one too big so that its too close to the hallway runner. shouldn’t there be some space? what’s the recommendation there? I also measured the width of the hallway and it’s 43.5 in. Given those measurements, do you have a suggestion on which entry rug and runner sizes would work best? Thank you!...See MoreEntry Hall table with mirror.
Comments (47)Furniture arrangement would depend on how you use the furniture. Example, if you tell me that you always use the lounge chair to watch tv, then unlikely sofa along the window will work well. Without further info, with sofa in front of window, chairs would face fireplace and lounge chair on left side of fp. For a very open feel, you could be sofa along window and chairs where they are. Is there an outside chance that lounge chair and sofa could fit along window wall. (Doesn't seem like it)....See MoreLarge sectional for small living room? Comfort over style?
Comments (16)I've always wanted to have a room where I could have the setup that Jan recommends, but I'm going to agree with Flo that you can have a sectional. Here's an article from AD that argues how sectionals are great for small spaces. In your room, I like the sectional layout much better than your current layout. But I would agree with getting one that has a back on both sides vs the chaise. I tried to find one for you, but it actually may be hard to find in a small size. PB has an apartment shop with smaller pieces, and Ballard Designs has lots of sectional options too that maybe you could piece together. One of my favorite podcasts just had an episode about small spaces, and they that small furniture with lots of legs makes a space feel anxious. Flo's layout, with a sectional without legs and an ottoman, would make your space feel cozy. And then you'd just have your current chair in the corner with legs. Different style from your room, but a small space with bookshelves and a sectional....See MoreConnecticut Yankeeeee
