Musselbound-like solution for temporary tile flooring?

I am looking to do a temporary flooring update to the toilet "closet" off of my primary bathroom until we get to a bathroom renovation in 2-3 years. The current flooring is a dated broken-tile mosaic style and I'd love to temporarily cover it with something lighter and more transitional in style.

Do you know of any recommended solutions to adhere the tile over the current tile without using thinset? Has anyone used musselbound on small sections of floors (even though the manufacturer discourages this?)

The photo I attached is not our actual floor but similar in style and color. The room itself is approximately 3' x 6' and has only the toilet in it and the floor is level.
