Need help with free-floating glass shelf
Comments (2)The bathrooms at the University Club in New York are small, and they have a mirror on the wall over the pedestal sink and toilet, which is between 4 and 5 feet. There is a glass shelf that runs the length of the mirror. It's 3/8" glass and is 4" deep. The mirror has trim around it to frame the mirror. The whole effect is very attractive. Four inches is a more than adequate depth without interfering with the operation of the sink faucet. You do need to mount the shelf high enough to meet the clearance specified for your faucet. Check the faucet installation guide for the clearance required. I'd ask at your friendly neighborhood frameless shower door place. They will also know what hardware you need to mount the shelf....See MoreFloating Fireplace Granite Shelf
Comments (1)It's certainly doable, but not DIYable unless you are a granite fabricator and metal fabricator. You will need to remove the drywall in order to be able to firmly attach metal brackets to the studs. The most supportive would be T shaped plates on either side of the stud (bolted together through the stud) with the T projecting outward be 1/2" rod steel. Then reapply the drywall, leaving only the rod steel protruding. The granite fabricator would then need to fabricate a 3 cm slab to your style specifications, and drill the 1/2" holes into the granite at the specified locations. The granite would then be slid onto the steel, and caulked at the drywall/granite juncture....See MoreFloating shelf fastener help
Comments (4)Make (2) 1/2" x 3/4" x 8" wood cleats that match your shelf. Push a torpedo level into the corner and mark level on each wall. Draw a level line from the mark into the corner on each side. Run a bead of paintable caulk along the cleat, interrupted in two spots for hot melt glue. The hot melt will hold the cleats to the line until the caulk sets up. Caulk the shelf to the top of the leveled cleats and when the caulk sets up, this will easily hold ten pounds....See MoreRemoving vases stuck to painted shelf?
Comments (14)I got them off! The hair dryer combined with gentle wiggling got one vase, and the big one (wide) I filled with hot (not boiling water) and it came off very quickly! Only one pin sized piece of paint came off. A few others with small bases needed a gentle twist and that did the trick. Thanks all! And sorry cil_antro, happily you were wrong. :)...See MoreM M
