GE Monogram Glass Door Refrigerators - good idea?
Comments (17)Although I don't know about the see-through door models, I can tell you that I'd never EVER purchase GE Monogram! We bought a house in March and the instant that I opened the refrigerator door, I knew that something was wrong....this is an expensive built-in model. Six years old. Should have been under warranty for several more years. Even the information packet says as such! Of course, the compressor was out and we had to buy a new one...and the company would not honor the warranty. And, I also felt that this should have surely been caught on inspection! The freezer temps were in the high 20's...not to mention high '40's for the refrigerator..and that was after it had been closed all night! So, $2000 later, we are still out the money and I'm probably not going to be reimbursed from GE. TERRIBLE service with these people! And I replaced the cooktop with my gorgeous new CornuFe range...but that's another story. Just think very carefully about built-in refrigeration from GE Monogram. I don't want anyone else to have such an expensive issue if they can avoid it!...See MoreHow can I attach a shelf to a tempered glass wall?
Comments (13)Our glass currently has a number of holes already -- there are handles on both sides of the door, for example, that connect with each other through the glass. The shower pipe is attached to the glass in another spot -- it goes through the glass and is capped by a chromed cap on the other side. Also, the glass door's hinges are attached to both the door and the wall by bolts, which go through the glass... If no reliable glue exists on the market, I may be back to drilling holes. If this is not a safe undertaking, I may consider hiring an insured pro. The procedure does seem complicated :( Could my glass be somehow "special"? Maybe, it is not really tempered? Or, perhaps, it is not glass, but some kind of transparent plastic? Puzzling... Milkworkman, it is not at all impolite, when given an opinion, to inquire, what the basis of it is. Nor is there anything inherently wrong with arguing (which I did not even do), much less with asking follow-up questions (which I did). My responses weren't hostile -- but yours is. Please, stop. Comments (8)My glass refrigerator shelf exploded in my hands yesterday. About to clean my new Samsung refrigerator glass shelf for the first time, I was holding the glass with both hands, and had momentarily placed one edge on the counter and about to remove something from the kitchen sink. As I lifted it about an inch off the counter to adjust it in my hands it literally EXPLODED in my hands without any good reason for it to explode. Glass went everywhere, in about a 25’ diameter. My daughter, standing next to me, had a couple of cuts on her leg. It took a couple of hours cleaning up the tiny shards of glass, including getting the glass out of the pea salad my daughter was making....See MoreGlass shelf stuck inside the refrigerator
Comments (4)Are there drawers below the shelf? If so, first remove the drawers. The clear and white stuff was probably the tape that the manufacturer used to keep the shelf/glass in place for shipping. First that has to come off. Try a warm hair dryer to remove it. After that I would recommend very, very hot water (as hot as you can stand) with a good dish soap like Dawn. The dish soap will help remove grease and food residue. The hot water will help dissolve any old sugary type spill in the edges. You might put a towel under the shelf to catch some of the water....See MoreIowacommute
