Cream waterline tile with French gray plaster?

Has anyone done light waterline tile with a gray pool color (Florida stucco French silver)? I had wanted it to match the coping and because I was worried about dark tile/grout showing build up but now I’m second guessing myself…will it look okay? Thank you!

The plaster finish is meant to be underwater and not be used as a replacement to a tile border. The tile border provides a surface that can be exposed and also makes the water line easy to clean.

You can certainly find a gray tile.

Hi Mystic Pools, LLC. Thanks for the response. I understand that. Maybe my post was confusing. I understand I could find a gray tile but had read that darker waterline colors are more difficult to clean and had initially wanted the coping/waterline to be seamless. Also if the waterline tile is supposed to match the pool color, that was a struggle for me because of the changes between blue/green/gray. Have you ever seen a white tile with a gray plaster? Thank you!

Rain in Houston area has postponed our dig and bought me a few extra days to decide on finish. Any pics would be greatly appreciated! We really do not want to pick a color we haven't seen in person, so pics would help us narrow down so we aren't taking up another PB/ pool customer's time. Our PB hasn't done French Grey and is just finishing a Mojave Beige (he will post pics when filled and balanced b/c I've told him what a challenge I've had). Many thanks!

My preference, mind you, just my opinion, the tile should compliment the plaster, coping and any hardscaping. Pulling in other colors from around the pool, "ties" it in. Trying to "match" the plaster will give a very monochrome look. Take the plaster sample and the hardscaping sample and lay them out in the pool area. Choose a few or more tile samples and lay them next to those. In the natural light, you will get a pretty good idea of the final look. Consider glass tile. There's an up charge for the material, but also there's a different method and materials for it's application, which translates into an added expense. The French Gray is a neutral color, so most material's colors go well together.

Oo it did. It looks light blue on my screen. It could be really pretty. O man!! Hmmmmm I love both. But I think the navy works well with the gray liner... if you didn’t choose the liner maybe I’d say the white. But for now I say the darker blue.

Thanks for the responses! We went with French Grey. Any suggestions on a cool deck color? I love the blue tile, but the white coping is a little brighter than I had wanted. I'm hoping that the color of the cool deck will help the white blend rather than stand out so much.

Have not seen white tile I think anywhere ever on a pool. Only a tiled commercial pool and spa we serviced years ago. The white will definitely show dirt/scum line.

Generally a contrasting tile to plaster and coping looks nice. All 3 should compliment each other.

It's a myth about dark tiles.
