We enclosed our previously screened-in carport, placing two small conventional windows on the SW side, facing our tiny sideyard. Both the SE side (facing our back garden) and NW side have sliding glass doors, the NW doors having glassed-in miniblinds. Both sliding doors have thermal drapes that can be used to cover them completely in weather that is too hot or too cold, and I have both a portable dehumidifier in the SW corner and and a large "end table" automatic quartz heater in the NW corner. I placed three large area carpets over the concrete slab, giving me essentially three different areas in which to arrange things. The slab absorbs both heat and cold, so if I am attentive to the room's needs it is entirely possible to keep it comfortable year round by adjusting the drapes, ventilating, and running the dehumidifier and heater. My sliding glass doors are screened, so on a good day I can open the doors at both ends and have a wonderful breeze through the entire room, and almost have the look and feel of a sun porch *and* a screened in porch, but without the inconveniences. The NE side opens into our tiny dining area, and we have an air conditioner in there. On very hot, humid days, our "sun room" is cooled sufficiently from that and a ceiling fan we added. This is a fairly low cost solution for anyone with a roofed-over carport or garage that they never park in; it's incredible the amount of living space that can be added to a home--it's now the largest room in the house, and the most attractive in terms of view, lighting, and general comfort.

Our sunroom is down a very short hallway from the kitchen / greatroom. It was drawn in our plans as a screened in porch but we decided to make it an all-season room. Deciding how to use this room has been the greatest challenge of moving in. Do I want it to be "garden like" with plants and patio furniture? Or do I want a bookstore like atmosphere with soft seating and small tables? Right now, we're using it to hold furniture that has no other place in our home at the present time. When we have guests, we often end up out in the sunroom with the windows open, breeze and bird songs coming through. It's on the southside so so it's sunny in the morning and shady in the afternoon. It's the perfect little getaway. I'm glad that it's away from the central location of the kitchen and greatroom. (and the TV) It's a nice size but If I could do it again, I'd make it twice as big. Then I could put a big table for dining as well as an area for chairs and relaxing.

I’d firstly paint the white doors. They are too jarring in contrast. Perhaps a touch lighter than the wall colour. Then, some seating. Wicker, as others recommend, is great BUT only if you can find it in trimmed-down versions. Much wicker furniture is bulky, with rolled arms and thick backs. Another option might be wooden outdoor furniture, like ikea’s applaro line. Some plants are a must, but don’t go overboard as they will need to come into your main house during winter. The great thing about rooms like this is that they can be exuberant, really fun, because you won’t be staring at them 24 hours a day all year and so you won’t grow tired of them. So you can do things that would be tacky elsewhere but are simply casual and fun in here—loud fabrics like colourful florals, fuchsia prints on the tablecloths, string lighting, that sort of thing. (This would rapidly become my favourite room.)

My concern with LVP in a sun room (yes I understand it will be conditioned) is LVP doesn't like direct sunlight. It has a history of warping and discolouring when strong, direct sunlight hits it. This is a general rule. There are ways around it. The easiest is high UV blocking windows (for those out there who know that infrared is the heat producing part of sunlight...I get it...the UV block also blocks the same amount of IR rays). If you don't know the level of rating on those windows, or you use the room to grow plants, then you will have to work with a HIGH end SPC/WPC core vinyl.
