It will always be lopsided. However, a more cohesive paint scheme would help unify the exterior aesthetically. I would also counter-balance the left side of the home by planting a tree on the right side of the yard. To help improve curb appeal taking the walkway out to the sidewalk/street would also help. Then, a heavy focus on landscaping...for a few suggestions.

Sorry but a house like that has not been tended to over time. A house inspection may determine there are significant problems or issues with systems. Don't get too excited about this house.

Well, that's an interesting 2nd floor addition! I agree that a better paint scheme and landscaping will help a lot. I wouldn't stop at one tree. :)

The good thing is, if you buy this and start fixing it up, the neighbors will all love you.

I am baffled as to how the right side wall & roof of the second story is supported.

Plus it is butt ugly.

I would move on.

Check to see if the second story addition was added with permits. A good paint job and a new walkway would help. They won't make the second story addition less awkward.

This does look like suburban Pittsburgh. A longer window on that left hand addition would help a great deal. As would painting the mint green stone to match the brick.

There was a huge building boom in the 1950 - 1960 period in the hilly areas surrounding the city along the newly constructed Parkways. The styles of the houses in the developments were very distinctive with relatively low ceilings split floor plans and relatively small windows. Red or yellow brick seemed to be the cladding of choice with bits of siding or cultured stone. It's really the style of the house + the hilly landscape that gives it away.

Yep! What @palimpsest said. Also, no conifer trees in the photo, and that’s another thing I’ve noticed when in Pittsburgh. Lots and lots of deciduous trees and pretty brown in the winter and early spring before new leaves.

The clouds, green grass and telephone poles are also the norm. Red, orange and yellow are local made bricks made from local clay. Put taller landscaping on the right of the house to counterbalance the left side. Also a maple tree on the right in the yard. I would paint the green and the addition the same as the brick. It would make it more cohesive. Painting the addition a different color makes it look like a box sitting on top of the house. Welcome back to the burg. How long have you been gone?

Location, location, location! If it meets your needs for location, then pay for an inspection to see how much more you'll have to sink into it to make it livable.

Surprisingly we haven’t been away from PA for too long but some family health issues are calling us back, I’ve had a nice long vacation living by the beach but apparently it wasn’t meant to be haha and yes the location would be great for the work transfers and the home interior has been already gutted and remodeled which only leaves this exterior monstrosity or I’m not even sure I’d be entertaining this house lol

If you have the budget this house could become a far better than what it currently is. Of course, an extensive renovation can approach the budget of tearing it down and starting from scratch.

IMO a huge improvement would be to have larger windows on the left to start I do think new siding is a myst and then a nice colr combo similar to the one fro Beverly and some awesome landscaping to give the whole thing some balance . I think start with the home inspection and also look up permits issued to make sure this is what you want. The house looks to me to be neglected so who knows what will pop up.

Although the house looks a little remuddled on the exterior right now, some relatively cosmetic changes (if you consider enlarging that window cosmetic) will go a long way to making this house at least fit its context better again.

This isn't a house surrounded by classic colonial revivals in Fairfield County Connecticut. This house is surrounded more or less like houses just like this, in a post-war development, with smaller, sometimes odd-looking, sometimes remuddled houses just like this. Fix the patchwork colors on the front, try to correct the remuddle a little and it will be fine.

I am a pragmatist about stuff like this, maybe because I live in an urban environment in a mid-century infill development with some pretty homely houses with very functional interiors. My house looks pretty okay in its context. It would not look great sandwiched between white clapboard houses with shutters. I think the same about this house. And I am not sure that if this were turned into something beautiful somehow that it would fit in its older suburban development context anyway.
