Comments (28)Here's an update. I've decided to keep the configuration the same for now because I don't really know what I want, I don't want to spend too much to remodel until I've lived in the house. So I am going to replace the countertops and the floor (vinyl flooring), and paint the cabinets. I think I agree with you all that a nice cream would like nice vs. a white. I've picked out a countertop. It's Formica laminate, but it's very pretty, I think. Also Emagineer -- I really love the refrigerator. I think a counter-depth refrigerator will be perfect and will not overpower the kitchen like a regular refrigerator would. And I'll have my old refrigerator in the garage if I need extra storage space. Also, I see what you guys mean about making the countertop all one level, instead of the bar behind the sink. I'm just not sure the cabinets under the bar will allow for that -- but I'm going to look into it. What do you think of the counter-top?...See MoreSpanish RENO that's gotten TOO big! HELP! Comments (41)Wow what a lovely plan. You must be very excited. Must the entire house be done all at once? I believe everyone who has done a minor update in their home (half bath ) to a giant full home renovation has to go through the dreaded Want vs Need list. Each person or corporation doing a renovation must figure out their budget and what they want to spend on their project.. Some people have unlimited funds but even those folks put together a plan. Do you have a General contractor or is your architect doing both? Sometimes a GC can really help control costs and help control the scope of a project and stay within budget. With that said, is your scope itemized or listed in sections per price? Your contractor/architect could probably help you figure out how to trim costs and to even do things in sections. What has your architect suggested? I would go through your list of wants vs needs and see which falls into place. Sometimes it is about deciding the structure (basement) of the house is more of a need while the La Cornue Grand Palais range is more of a want. I wonder if filling in the basement might end up being the cheaper option in the end? With a smaller basement you could make your entire project smaller. So much to think about but I am sure you can do it! You are on your way to making your dream home a reality....See MoreNeed Help with CA Bungalow
Comments (8)pink_peony makes a good point about re-upholstering furniture. It's rarely economical unless you have a high quality piece of furniture. At this point, I think your focus in the living room should be pricing appropriately sized sofas. You'll find that a sofa will serve you much better over the years, than a sectional. Buy the absolute best you can afford in a classic shape and color you know you won't tire of. Your bedding looks good. Consider folding back the duvet for a more layered look. You will need a more substantial bed side lamp. There are many affordable options at your local discount or consignment stores. Maybe deepen the restful tones of your palette in an art piece for above the bed. I like to consider my sight lines upon entering a room. I find that being presented with electronics, such as TV's, doesn't feel welcoming. The recommendations above may be your best option. But, I'd like you to consider the below once you have an appropriately sized sofa....See Morehelp! Kitchen deco lighting for 1940 bungalow
Comments (24)I’m looking at the Rejuvenation Rose City pendants as an example. Their 4” fitter will support a 10” classic schoolhouse (6” high) or an 11“ ogee schoolhouse (7” high); I prefer the profile of the ogee. If I want a 12” classic schoolhouse, I‘d have to install a 6” fitter. (The 6” fitter will fit much larger fixtures, like 14 and 16”, which seem too large for my space. The 4” fitter supports other fixtures, like a drum, 8” wide and 6” deep. So the 4” seems to give me more options for this particular spot). I don’t have to buy from Rejuvenation, but I do like their products and love that I have the option to swap out shades. So I can play around and choose the one I like for this project. (I want to try clear but if the glare is too much, I could swap to opal glass. ) I’d also have the option to swap it out in the future for a slightly different look. Does anyone else offer that? I haven’t seen it. Thanks for all your help!!!! I really appreciate it....See MoreCelery. Visualization, Rendering images
