Help with 1930s Spanish Remodel / Restoration

Our house needs a lot--plumbing, electrical, windows (none are original), kitchen, etc. It's an early 1930s flat roof Spanish/Mediterranean style 1,100sf home located across the street from the beach in Southern California. It's one of the original beach houses at this beach and our goal is to make the exterior look as close to original as code and common sense will allow us. The kitchen poses the biggest challenge in terms of our desire for functionality in a small space and period correctness. We love having all frameless 4-stack drawers for lowers and have no idea how to reconcile this with our aesthetic wishes for originality. Should we just give up on the idea of making the kitchen look like it might be original to the house? Is there anything we can do to the frameless drawers to temper their non period looks? Will a tile countertop help or just look out of place on top of these drawers? The house is by no means a museum quality piece. It's just a simple cool old house that we'd like to keep from looking like the Property Brothers got a hold of it. Any ideas from you guys would be much appreciated.
