more countertop/backsplash conundrums- mixing quartz w/ marble bs
Comments (29)Fwiw, I just mixed faux-marble quartz (Lagoon) with a Carrera backsplash and at least in it's pre-grouted state, I'm really happy. It was hard for me to find a backsplash that worked well with the grey-ish tones of the Lagoon, mostly because my cabinets are painted taupe. Anything that "matched" the cabinets seemed too brownish for the counters. The Carrera blends the two perfectly. I think it also works because I wound up using a very small-scale herringbone pattern, so the patterns in the marble tiles are less pronounced. Fwiw, I don't see the calacutta tiles that the OP posted working with a greyish quartz that's similar to Lagoon, and I'd also be concerned about pattern overload with a subway tile. But having worried about the fake-next-to-real problem, I wanted to at least add my experience that it can be done. One of the prettiest kitchens on here, done by a pro, is GW user @kompy, who used a different marble subway with Lagoon counters, and it looks stunning....See MoreQuartz or Dekton/Neolith?
Comments (254)I just found this thread and it is very helpful to what I am working on now but first and foremost, I would like to share my condolences on the loss of your husband. I lost a husband many years ago and still recall how difficult it was. It is a journey, with ups and downs, but you will find a new normal life for you and your family. I am working on a condo kitchen reno and was trying to decide if I should recommend Dekton vs Silestone to the client. They really like the new Silestone - Ethereal Glow that has some warm gold veining in it. HOWEVER, she is not the best housekeeper and I wonder about stains and they also had a counter for 25+ years in their old house that was heat proof (can't recall what it was but it was not concrete). Based on this conversation I took a quick look at Dekton REM and it might be a better solution. What is the recommended edge for Dekton? The only other kitchen/bath reno I have done is a kitchen with a Cambria - Berwyn counter....See MoreHas anybody had Caesarstone calacatta nuvo countertop installed?
Comments (59)What are good wall colors for this combination? I'm installing a Calacatta Novo countertop with white high-gloss IKEA upper cabinets and Voxtorp walnut look base cabinets. Using simple 3x6 white subway tiles for backsplash with gray grout and Rawtech white tiled floor (looks like light concrete). I'm thinking of introducing some greige to shake things up instead of a more typical white like Simply White or Cloud Nine (which looks great in the pictures above!) - Worn Leather Shoe, Upper West Side, or Quicksand looked interesting in the Benjamin Moore online program. Any tips?...See MoreCorian vs Dekton
Comments (39)mtpo, we are building a townhome with an elevator! We are under roof, and mechanicals have just begun. I am fortunate to have found a builder who was willing to customize our home for accessability. The elevator option for this home was 60K which I know they are making quite a bit of money on. We've upgraded the size of the cab so it is significantly deeper so it will comfotably accommodate my hubby and another person. Fortunately, there was not an extra charge for this. The wheelchair takes up quite a bit of space . . . we measured. I was able to design the garage level so there are no steps between garage and hall to elevator. This will help a lot. We've made all doors 36" wide and expanded the size of the powder room. The main living floor, kitchen, LR, DR are all open concpet. We are doing a zero clearance shower in the bath where the tiled floor slopes to the drain and wheelchair vanity. Construction has stopped so I have no idea when the home will be complete. Yes, maybe we should start another thread . . . sorry everyone, I feel like I highjacked this one....See MoreStephanie Kendrick
