Furniture Design Dilemma living room

Living room dilemma

Renting an apartment in a few months, and working with the layout ahead of time. Living room feels disconnected and a bit divided to me. What's the best way to work this room in our favor. Like to host friends and family.. Opinions? All ideas welcome.

Is there an existing chandelier over that table? is that your sofa with chaise in layout & if yes, what is length of sofa & width of that section of room? You may guess that I’m wodering if dining area can be moved to about where the console is sitting

that is not our sofa... just considering a sectional. Our current sofa now is 80". There is a chandelier over the table, but light fixtures could be changed...

Consider true white for the walls and ceiling, then go with a darker neutral for the flooring/rug and add color with your other upholstered furnishings. Use white mini-blinds within the window frame for privacy, if needed so you can limit curtain/drapery panels to covering only the side of the window frames and the wall beside the windows -- leaving as much natural light as possible entering the room. Trying different bulbs in existing light fixtures and/or adding floor lamps in the corners could be worth considering.

Well, I certainly couldn't have done ANY of this without all of you. I am so happy looking around my new rooms. My favorites: the furniture placement (of course), the art wall, the mantle, the 3 vases on the black tray on the table (although there may be too many flowers in them at the moment), the fabric covered shade in the dining area. the sofa table bookcase, the fireplace screen... I'm going to interrupt myself because now it seems I'm just listing all the changes. It's obviously too hard to pick just 2 or 3 favorites. Theresa, your peonies are gorgeous -- loving the size of those blooms! I hope to follow all of you as you move on to new projects. I consider each one of you a new friend.

Hi! the room is rather wide, isn't it? Hmmm...If you don't want it too crowded, you may only have room for a couch facing the tv and then two accent chairs on either side. Maybe a couple stools in front of the fireplace that could double as seating but could also be stored away...maybe under a console table under the window to the right of the stairs. I'm not sure you'd have room for a loveseat. Would you be able to buy the couch first to better gauge how much room you'd have? You could also lay out a rectangle on the floor with tape to see what the footprint of the desired couch might be.

I believe 2 chairs offer more flexibility vs a loveseat. heres a couple ideas, both neutral but different neutral colors and different styles. one chair facing the window with a side table that can service the sofa and the chair. another chair angled into the room at the window, hard to tell how much room you have but it seems like you have enough roommfor 2 chairs

Is one of the two doors on the console wall the entry to kitchen? Or, where’s kitchen? Based on layout provided, I’d be inclined to swap dining & seating area. For me, the sofa & chairs are too distant from each other & current layout doesn’t create conversation or TV watching areas. If dining table was centered where console is now, looks like there’s room to create an entry area set up by what I assume is front door at end of couch. If my placement guesses aren’t right, you’ll need to lable the doors & add wall measurements plus width / space measurements in order to receive helpful advice.

Put the dining are next to kitchen, then you have all that space for living room.

Heres another option im thinking of with a chaise lounge so you can face chairs OR sofa for conversation spaces?

@Sara Nicole I like your last rendition much better! Keeps the dining area close to kitchen - better flow for serving clearing etc. Is the door to left of entry a bedroom? I would float couch closer to the chairs giving it more distance from entry. This would also give you room to add a table in space between entry door & corner for coat rack, or table etc to define entry. Floating more lenght of couch back into the open space past wall also gives the opportunity to place a narrow console talble behind couch to set a lamp on, place a tall floor plant etc & further separate the dining area from seating. If you don’t have furniture yet, you’ll need to choose wisely with all room measurements in hand!

ETA not sure about chaise - that’s the very last thing I’d purchase after the sofa & really comfy chairs!
