Exterior Design Dilemma Paint

Need Help! Update craftsman exterior

Hello! I’m in desperate need of an updated color scheme for our house away from all the yellow and gold. Thinking of changing out the columns to cedar wrapped with stone at the bottom, lime washing everything and then going with a brown/gray trim similar to the roof color. Our windows are almond color. Suggestions much appreciated!!

Oh my...whomever selected the colors of that brick and stone combo...I have no words. IMO all the stone is there to stay and changing the posts to a much slimmer style is a good idea. Pick a shade from the stone and, using Romabio.com cover all the brick. Get matching paint for the sided 2nd. floor addition.

Wow, what a combination. I like the brick. I think it goes with the color of the roof, too. But the stone is very yellow. Would you consider covering the stone?

Can I ask what you loved about the floor plan because I'm not feeling much love for it. Why is it the only room in the whole house with windows on two walls is the master bathroom? You have the master bath on an outside wall instead of your master bedroom. Your master bedroom is against the great room which means it will be noisy if one of you keeps different hours. Your master closet has a window in it which is bad for clothing so will need to be closed most of the time, and supposedly an island but you don't have enough room in there for an island. Clothing hanging takes up 2 feet of space so now you're down to 6'4". You need 32" minimum of space for walking and ideally you need 36". Using the 32", you now have space for a 1' wide island. That's not going to store much. Why double doors into the master bathroom? Is the master bath that special that it deserves double doors? You have a freezer in the laundry area, but look at how far a walk it is to the kitchen. If you're serious about this plan, please do yourself a favor and vet your kitchen in the kitchen forum. It's not bad but it could be a lot better. One measly small window in bedroom 2?

Need help ASAP! Exterior update needed before loss of insurance

My spouse has been in insurance for over 13 years and knows the laws and regulations and is licensed in 45 states. But the exterior was up to code other than a panel along the bottom on the side of the driveway and it was that way when we moved in and so we did not change it. in 2017 the 10 month notice was to difficult to have all the work done as we lost my spouses income completely and the medical treatment bill was $500,000.00 and that was top priority to save my spouse's life. So yes the home got put second. Our state told we do not qualify for any assistance as they would take my spouse's prior income into account. I was able to find a family member that is willing to help with the siding, but said we will have to buy the materials and his crew can handle the installation for labor the cost is $5500.00 I am hoping that is not too steep. We will now just have to figure what supplies for the exterior we will want to upgrade the home as if we are going to put money in, we want to make it worth it.

Choice 1 - make it lighter - Svelte Sage and Ancient Marble But you did say your neighbor has Svelte Sage and Connected Gray - do you really want something that close to what the neighbor has - or is this down the street a ways and not next door or across the street? Choice 2 - go more greige than green - I always liked this combination - Colonade Gray has a slight green undertone. Just enough to make it work well in your environment. Choice 3 - go with something a bit more bluer green gray than sage. One of my favorite exterior colors is SW Comfort Gray. Found this pic on the internet from an HOA Here is another photo that is an actual photo of Comfort gray vs a rendering. Personal preference - I would pick Comfort Gray, but everyone likes different colors. You will want to test before having it painted.

@kjr0625 - before you change things, have an architect design the changes and create some renderings. I fear that removing the vertical lines will make that front look really boring and sparse, and it's worth the extra money to be able to really see how it's going to look before you actually do it. Personally, I think those lines are the best feature of that house and I would love to see it preserved. An architect could help you come up with other ideas that might make you happy. Of course it's your home so you should feel free to do what you want! @Patricia Colwell It also in not MCM but a great example of a 80's contemporary house stay true to that era for sure. It definitely captures the MCM spirit for sure though. I happen to love these, even when they do lean more 70s/80s!

As chiflipper said, change the center of the columns ( wood part) to be slimmer at the bottom. Current configuration is badly proportioned.

The stone is very yellow - the pics don’t really do it Justice. Have thought about just painting the stone as I don’t hate the brick.

Agree with chi about changing the color of the brick to blend with the stone. Maybe a pale cream. People rave about Romabio as it’s not paint but is very effective in changing the color of masonry.

Use the same pale cream on your posts and second floor.

Then stop and study what you have done. I’m thinking of perhaps Romabio-ing the stone on the second story too. A second story partially in stone looks odd to me. If you do that, then the only natural stone would be right at the ground level and I think the house would look much more cohesive.

It looks like a fine substantial home. It just needs some love.

Pick a lane. Either keep the brick or the stone and paint everything else to blend with that choice.

Talk to Romabio and consider a dark charcoal for the yellow stone, a lighter gray for the brick and cedar cladding for the siding and new reduced columns. Here are some bits and pieces of what you might achieve with the stone/brick change and the addition of cedar.
