Anyone else finding spelling bee particularly hard today or is it just me.

Just scooted over now and yup, seems tough to me. I found three words off the bat and I now have to think. No bueno. I bet it's a very low scoring game.

I had people tell me my youngest son should be tested for gifted when he was in elementary school. I didn't and hope I did not screw things up. He was gifted in certain areas I do know that. As a baby he was almost freakish in his hand eye coordination in dismantling his crib, electronics or anything with knobs or screws. He was also gifted in art composition but only advanced in most studies in school. His school was in a close nit neighborhood and the gifted kids moms seemed along the lines of stage moms to me so I didn't pursue the gifted testing. I didn't see any of the kids in the gifted classes suffering from any side effects of having a happy childhood though. I have seen some of those kids have problems after school and before college though (don't know what happened since college days). I know of one kid who seemed to of lost his identity in the interim. That kid in particular was lucky his grandmother had been high up in the police department as his record suddenly disappeared off the public record site and he is now in a university. With some of the others there were talks of odd quirky happenings. It's just hard to know the right answer, my son is well adjusted, ambitious and doing well. Would he be doing better if I had taken a different road? I don't know I just care that he seems happy, has good friends, a good job and is going to school.

I used to see the red fairy duster in stores but I haven't lately. They might freeze down to the roots and jump right back up on those bad years in San Antonio. You guys do get freezes a fewer temps lighter and a few days shorter. I really do notice the difference of what grows in SA and here. I am creating slowly NEXT year, my south of the house bed that will be effected by thermal mass of a large cement foundation thick cement pillars and a uninterrupted southern exposure to winter sun. That should buy a Zone, or so I am hopping, in my state of acute zonal-denial. Sometimes I think of the plants that I kill as my offerings to all the garden demigods that look over me and my verdant babies. They need something to eat to stay happy. I have not gone the extra step to human sacrifice. Instead of "eye for an eye", it is still "a plant for a plant" on a cold winter night. Another thing of interest might be that the older they get the more cold hardy and resilience the Pink fairy duster is. It froze down last winter and it is bigger than ever right now. I do not mulch it or water it and it is just planted in unadulterated limestone marl that was pick axed apart and maybe some DG sand added around the roots. It was slow to establish treated like that, but it is alive and well many tears later..

Well, I don't know where the former owner got it. Given the Texas star in the middle, I suspect she commissioned it done by a welder in the area. It's sturdy steel (and needs to be) and is well secured deep in the ground. Doesn't move a bit in heavy wind or from wisteria pull. I just wish she'd buried it 1-2' farther from the house corner. Have to prune it off the gutter and roof twice a season. But that doesn't take long really. Not for such beauty and drama at that end of the yard.

Agree— anything under 30 seems almost easy. Almost… there were a few hiccups this am. Luckily I remember the cricketing term that comes up regularly from reading Dorothy Sayer mysteries fifty years ago. 👑🐝 for 124. This is less bragging than a marking down of something in my life I can actually control. (Well, a little bragging but not too much bc it does get so much easier the longer you’re at it.) edited to reduce this number to 124 from the 125 i first posted yesterday. i can spell like heck but i obviously can’t count. Today it’s 125 and hopefully tomorrow it will be 126.

I don’t subscribe so I just go for the pangram first, then see how many points I can get before getting shut out. Got the pangram half-asleep, and it kicked me off right away!

Thanks for the reminder. I do it when it comes out at midnight and had to give up last night and go to bed. I'm not used to having to finish it in the morning, but I was really stumped and still about 13 points away from genius.

I do the one called Free Bee. It's rather frustrating that you can have dozens of words and two hundred points and then kinda give up, look at the answers and see you need to have 300 points to be Queen Bee Status and there is a possibility of 400 points. With Wordle if you solve it you solve it. There is something vaguely dissastisfying about reaching "Superior" status or whatever the rankings are, only to look and see dozens of words you missed and dozens you've never heard of.

Yes! My personal rule is that I do it ABM—no grid or hints—until I reach Genius and then I look at the Grid and Hints. I finally reached Genius but only did 1 more from the Hints. Too much other stuff to do.

I haven't been doing the Bee much lately, but I figured I needed to check it out today. It's hard with that center letter. I've got the pangram and 5 other words so far.

I didn’t even know there was a grid or hints! To me and my friends its just a joke to have some random internet game pronounce you a genius, so we brag to each other about our status. I have picked up some new words from playing, but find I miss the same ones over and over. If I do eventually remember one of those, then I will usually always remember after that. I do look at the page with stats to see how many pangrams there are so I’ll know whether to continue to look for more, as they are the fastest way to accumulate points.

Not so easy! So far I have 12 words, including the pangram. Sometimes it takes me all day but I rarely give up without getting to Genius. The Mini Crossword is my favorite. I try to do it in less than a minute

Yesterday’s bee was pretty easy. Today’s was more challenging. Today was my 271 st consecutive Queen Bee. Seventy four percent of the way to my goal of 365 days!
