Master bedroom revamp

Hi - took some really good advice from the folks in this site (thank you!) and decided to change our bedroom — see before picture to see our initial mess.

key recommendation/actions taken:

1. changed the color of the wall (swirling water behr).

2. change the lighting to recess lighting (makes a huge difference)

3. moved the bed to the center of the room

4. removed all of the extra stuff including a tall dresser

now we are looking for recommendations for:

1. window treatment, we are thinking blackout curtains from the highest level possible but not sure on color.

2. art/wall deco to make the room pop a bit more. we initially were thinking about an accent wall but decided against it (didn’t agree on a color that would work with the rest of yhe room :) )

3. bedroom furniture. we were thinking nightstands but don’t want to have too much in the room since the room size is 11x14 and we have a king bed.

any suggestions would be helpful

You need curtains. I would have chosen the curtain fabric and bedding before I chose paint.

You can certainly have nightstands but instead of the usual ones, look at the ones that are "floating". They take up less room and are attached to the wall. You may need to bolt them to the wall, however. Either have someone do that for you or look on youtube for a video about how to do it. Put your ceiling lights on dimmers. For great atmosphere, get a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height. The challenge with ceiling lights is sometimes they can make a room look like a doctors office. Lighting is often overlooked as a design element, but it is actually an important part of the room.

Wall decor is highly personal. Check out a local artist, art gallery, or see if a local college has their own art gallery. Also, try art.com. They have a lot of choices in subjects, sizes, shapes, etc. Get a print from them, then have it framed locally in plexiglass (safer and lighter to hang). When we build, there won't be any rooms above our Master Bedroom. At the moment, my almost 13-year-old son and 3-year-old's room is over our Master Bedroom. My 8- and 10-year old's room is above the living room. Their bathroom is between their two rooms. When sleeping in, I can hear every single movement that my 13-year-old and 3-year do. There was carpet in the room which helps with the noise, but I hate carpet and put in wood flooring. If he drops something, I hear it. When he goes to the bathroom, I hear it. When all 4 of them are in one room, I can hear them. Just as this, I can hear every movement in my other boys' room when in the living room. They are very rambunctious and like to jump around. Another problem I have is that the pipe from their toilet/tub goes down the wall which is located between our living and kitchen/dining room. When they flush the toilet or let out their bath water, the pipe rattles in that wall. I know every time they use the bathroom and so do my guests. Most times it is rather embarrassing.

If you feel the bed is squished but really want the head of the bed by the windows, you might consider adding a single shelf to the wall above the headboard beneath the art for items that usually go beside the bed and move the bedside tables elsewhere, replacing them with a pair of relatively inexpensive modern floor lamps -- the kind with one light shining toward the ceiling and the other with a flexible arm to be reachable from the bed and usable for reading, etc. I have a heavy oak (more traditional) floor lamp table combo buy my bed but I also have one of these in the corner at the beginning of the hall and recently bought a second one for my as a reading light. I like them well enough that if I needed more floor lamps, I seriously consider buying more of these -- affordable at $13.67 +tax each ... and they're actually already mostly put together since they just need to be laid out (on bed or floor) so you can align the sections of pipe, twist/screw them together and then pull the cord into place .. .no tools required. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-72-Combo-Floor-Lamp-with-Adjustable-Reading-Lamp-Silver/12173433

A big window in master bedroom closet and none in the master bedroom

Guessing the window is there for curb appeal on the front façade. Have you drawn a mock up to see what that would look like? Sky light /solar tubes add TONS of natural light!! Gotta wonder who the architect was and if it would be cheaper to move the closet so the window is part of the room, than mess with outside walls!!

You need night tables and almps those horrible blinds need to go and I think you could do better for bedding and fior sure some pillows I would just do drpes on the window nice full ones in a fabric in a color from what ever bedding you are going to use,

Very glad to see that you have moved the bed off the wall! Now you need nightstands and other storage furniture (dresser, etc.). I would suggest a different window treatment and adding artwork and accessories. Good luck!
