Comments (18)Funny, funkyart, my house is a 1960's colonial...but I always wanted that old farmhouse. So we ripped out all (ALL) the wimpy moulding and baseboards throughout the house and replaced it with wide/substantial trim, Added hardwood throughout, and did everything we could to revamp the style. It's more of a colonial revival look throughout---with schoolhouse pendants, pedestal sink in the 1/2 bath etc. I bet you could make this work in your room too! I will post some pictures of the inside of the closet tonight so you can get a better idea of how big, and the layout etc. Pretty much, it is a wide reach-in. Not quite walk in closet, although it is big enough to walk into etc. just not to hang clothing on both sides. The entire closet is open, but closed off by the 3 sets of doors. 2 sets of the doors hold my clothes, and dh has one. Shoe cubbies fit on both ends (which may be may favorite part of the whole thing---Dh built them to fit shoes and purses.) The closet system is from Lowes, and I highly recommend it. You can customize it however you like and it really looks more $ than it is. We had priced out California Closets, and their bottom of the line style was almost triple the cost of these... and these are much nicer looking. If you can DIY, they are the way to go. Comments (13)Would you husband be opposed to a tandem garage? With a good architect and builder and of course $$$ you could build on and have a side facing garage. The garage would still fit 4 cars, but just tandem through the new garage into the old garage. They can fill in the current garage door and make it look like it is part of the house and not just a filled in garage door. Remove the old driveway and re-landscape. And your house would not look like all garage....See MoreAwkward master bedroom layout
Comments (14)I like the bed centered with the fireplace. It tucks it more on the other side for walkways and has less view from the entry. As far as the window seat, I think they're a lovely feature, but how often will you truly sit there? Maybe in a common room where kids are, it would be more likely to be used. In your bedroom, I'd rather have a comfortable chair next to the window to sit and read a book while enjoying the nice fire.:) Will you be needing a place for a dresser in your bedroom or will all the clothes be stored in your closet? I would measure and take into account where any furniture will be placed, so not to be surprised when moving in. Some other thoughts - the her closet looks to have access to the laundry which will be a great feature. But it would be really nice if the his closet had the same. -agree on bedroom 2's closet-that will be hard to access, but a great hiding spot for kids dirty clothes-;) -in your master bath you won't have a lot of counter space. I'd rather have one sink and some drawer storage and a full sized linen closet within. Also, the double doors aren't particularly practical. We've had these in the past and found them to be awkward and lots of times left open, -path of least resistance issue....See Morebedroom furniture proportions
Comments (30)Traditionally, the bed is the focal point of a bedroom and that's usually achieved by making sure it's placed in the best spot in the room and having the headboard wall draw the eye. (Focal point does not necessarily mean pattern.) Feel free to skip the picture above the headboard if you find the headboard is substantial enough to command attention. (Pictures don't always convey these things accurately so you need to develop your eye to look at your room objectively and trust your taste.) A patterned duvet could also be nice but it all depends on you and the vibe you're seeking in the room. Some people tire quickly of patterns. Others love them forever. There's more than one way to achieve a pleasing bedroom and loads of options out there so being all over the place is par for the course whenever we contemplate change. At least, it is for me. (You should see my Pinterest boards for my little bedroom revamp!) My suggestion to you is to describe the room you want in a few words then decide on your starting point. Most designers will tell you that should be the bed. Figure out your budget and what's staying and you now have your change parameters. Keep your end picture (be it a feeling or a look) in mind to guide you as you choose elements. For example, let's say the vibe you're seeking is "romantic" and you fall in love with a bold geometric duvet. You'll need to ask yourself if this duvet jibes with "romantic" as you pictured it....See MoreRelated Professionals
