I would do a 5'x7' rectangular rug at the entrance and no runner.

But wouldn’t the rest of the entryway look bare?

Once you put up art on the walls and a console/sideboard with lamps across from the blue chair, the space will look finished.

To answer rtpaige03, the distance from the front door to the closet is about 10.5’. The French doors closest to the front door is the office.

And yes, I am still waiting on my entryway table to arrive (May I think) and still plan on getting a small, round table (or 2?) to put by the blue chaise on the curved stairs side

@Jinx, how big should the area rug for front door be? I’ve read they should be the width of the doors so 4’x6’? How wide and long then, should the runner be? And how far from the area rug should I place the runner—center it with the wall?

Hi, Toni, it’s so hard to say not seeing it in person. Before I order rugs, if I’m unsure about sizes, I tape dimensions off. I’m also very into not following rules, so usually just do what I like visually. Not saying that’s the best way to be! But it’s how I am. :)

Maybe more mathematically inclined posters will weigh in.

I would do a large rug or attractive sisal doormat at front door, and a round rug at the curved alcove. I agree on taping out the dimensions before purchasing

UPDATE: I still haven’t bought a rug 🤦🏻‍♀️but I did listen to all your advice and mapped out the dimensions of potential rugs and furniture.

The first photo shows what a 5’x8’ rug would look like near the doors. The second shows a 4’x6’ rug next to my console table (coming in late May/early June). The remaining two photos show the entire hallway from both ends.

I think the 5x8 rug would look good by the doors, but I can’t help but feel that even with the console table, settee, and other decor (I plan on adding a small accent table and tall vase on either sides of the settee), that would still leave a large swath of uncovered floor.

I was considering putting a second 5x8 rug, but based on many photos I’ve looked at, you’re not supposed to have the rug go under the console table feet. Hence why I mapped out a 4x6. But that size seems small for that area, even if I put two of them. Should I even go for three 4x6 rugs? Or would it look disjointed?

Does anyone have any suggestions?
