Advice on how to finish edges of glass tile backsplash
Comments (13)Like amy, we just let our glass mosaic tile "end" in the previous house's kitchen backsplash and the current house's master bath wall tile. The edge is caulked, but is slightly rough when you run your finder over it. I have a long horizontal edge behind the vanity sinks (about 7" above the sinks) and I have not found it difficult to keep clean or anything. I like the simpleness of just letting the glass tile end. In our installations, any edging would have been too fussy......See Moretile question (how to avoid installing 'sliver tiles')
Comments (8)Anita, I don't know what's going on, but I posted to your thread right after you posted it, and it's not showing as having an answer. But if I click on the thread, my answer's there!! here it is, copied and pasted: o RE: Bill Vincent (or other tilers), a tile sliver question for yo Brought to you by clip this post email this post what is this? see most clipped and recent clippings * Posted by bill_vincent (billvincent@hotmail.com) on Sun, Jun 8, 08 at 12:57 There's two things you could've done to make it a little better. Normally, it's a no brainer-- split the difference, so that you have a 2" piece, top and bottom. But in this case, that would've ended up putting a sliver at the bottom of the window. If were up to me, I would've started the full tile at the bottom of the window. That would've given you another 1/4", anyway, from looking at the photo. Secondly, where the tile comes out past the cabinet, I'd have used tiles bullnosed on the 6" side, made the sliver that comes out from underneath the cabinet an "L" cut, and then a full piece of bullnose to end into the other window. I'm sorry-- I don't mean to tear your work apart, but you asked. :-) Other than that, it looks good! :-)...See MoreFinishing edge Schluter strip Tile installer debate
Comments (10)It starts with the appropriate design. Without seeing where these dropped areas occur my first thought was if they could have been dry walled and been painted to be a part of the ‘ceiling’ and not tiled at all as part of the ‘wall’. Not to necessarily drop the whole ceiling. So assuming it HAD to be tiled you and your tile pro discuss the overall design and details. A seasoned pro will know the tile sizes in relation to the spaces are either working or not. If you hired a handyman type who is just ‘doing what they are being told ‘ then you own this. I have to question if they have waterproofed properly because any tile pro who knows their stuff would have questioned those tiles used on those slivered areas (regardless of wether or not you got the correct schluter edge ordered)....See MoreMirror reflections
Comments (71)Jinx, what a cool little lamp! It reminds me of the beach as it sort of has a jellyfish look to it :) I'm also lamp obsessed and especially love antiques. My dad used to rescue old lamps people would set out with their trash. I found it mortifying as a kid, but was all to happy to take some of the the ones he rewired along with me when I set up my first apartment. One of my favorites has a nightlight in the base which I adore. Great choice on the rug; it looks so at home in your cozy room! Thank you... I love that kitty heart picture because it captures what a love bug Friday was :) That's the only time they configured themselves like a heart, and I was lucky to snap a picture before they reconfigured themselves. ilikefriday, glad you enjoyed the blog! What's not to love about another mildly neurotic decor-obsessed cat lover? :-D...See MoreSolmaz
