phyllis, yes, this was fun to read. we are building a house, I picked out a light camel color for the walls. i went to the house and the builder had the painter paint EVERYTHING that color! Walls, ceilings, closets, shelving, everything. After a few weeks of going back and forth to check other things that were going on, we decided to have them paint the ceilings white. (I just couldnt stand everything the same color) A painful decision, as we are having to pay for this even though our builder never asked about the ceilings, and I assumed I picked the "wall" color for the walls. I figured ceilings were white as a given. Now, after reading this thread, I realize that the closets should have been white too! All of my closets in my current home are bright, white and pretty! If he had asked me, I would have said white. They could have sprayed the trim, ceiling and walls in the closets the white they used on all the trim in the house. Easy. Coulda, woulda, shoulda....

We are looking at buying a house that has vaulted ceilings in the kitchen and living room. I want to paint my ceiling and one wall, in the living room, similar to the pic below with the blue wall. Maybe not quite that dark. As you can see from the bottom 2 photos, it is not an open concept, but more of a doorway between the kitchen and living room, causing a separation. I was thinking of blue and dark tan/gray colours for the living room, but am at a loss as to what to do in the kitchen. Any ideas? I don't really want to go with a white ceiling in the kitchen if the living room is a blue ceiling. And given the cupboards and the kitchen being small, should I just paint the kitchen and ceiling all one colour? Maybe the tan/gray that is also going to be in the living room? Thanks a bunch for any suggestions.

You have a big job ahead! You must be excited. It is difficult to pick colors for someone else. Are you keeping your furniture and artwork? Also, I find it hard to see true colors with harsh overhead lighting. Lamplight is much more flattering to people and things. So many people are painting everything gray. It gives a home a very cool feeling. I do not ever recommend gray because I prefer warmth. It appears that you also like warmer colors. I would go with something less yellow. My " go to" color is SW Kilim Beige.

You prime the whole thing with white primer. No more yellow reflections. No more wasted time. You can also buy a fan deck.
