what color to paint inside of closets
Comments (9)My closets always have been and always will be creamy white. It just makes it easier for me to see things in there. I tend to use color with some body to it on walls in rooms, and carrying some of those into the adjoining closet could get kinda funky ;) I say that because I've noticed paint can cast reflective color, some more pronounced than others. Along the reasoning that we are careful about color/lighting in a bathroom so our complexions don't take on a greenish cast in the mirror, it seems to follow clothes in closets could also take on reflections from the walls and distort a bit. A scenario like that could get someone like my DH, who's eyes have trouble discerning subtle colors, in trouble. ('your mama dresses you funny' comes to mind ;D All that aside, I truly believe it's just a matter of personal taste. As far as sheen, I've always stuck with eggshell. Less glare that higher gloss levels, and easy wipe of the occasional scuff from tired feet kicking off shoes or stuff getting shuffled around on shelves....See MoreDo I paint the inside walls of my walk in closet?
Comments (17)When I painted by main floor closet I bought a small can of white paint and dropped in one of my gazillion BM sample pots to create a nice off-white. I would never paint the closets the color of the adjoining room in my house because I change colors way too much. I also painted my three bedroom closets last month EK Gustavian Grey which is a lovely light grey (ceilings too.) For my 5 x 5 master bedroom I ordered a fun light. I have a gorgeous rug in their that I got on clearance. I am with Jan teacats, make it fun! Final answer: Life is to short to paint a closet plain white....See MorePaint Color Inside Closets
Comments (22)I remember removing at least 5 or 6 layers of WALLPAPER from closets in my parents' house (which is from the late 1800s.) I couldn't believe that people bothered to wallpaper the closet, but I guess once there was one layer, they had to keep repapering it if they repapered the rest of the room, or else it would clash terribly. I would say it depends on if the closet is a regular, relatively small closet, or is like a separate room. And, of course, wood always looks good - some people have entirely cedar-lined closets, whether they're large or small. So they don't always have to be white. But white is standard, and I certainly don't want to have to repaint the closet every time I repaint a room. Personally, since as I have mentioned I always consider resale issues, I would not paint my closet anything but the lightest, most neutral color (if not white.) Closet color is one of those things where you can picture a buyer opening the door, and saying, "eew, that's so dated!" or "What were they thinking??? We're definitely going to have to repaint that." I like to minimize things that seem like, er... "errors in judgment".... because I think they raise issues about how the rest of the house might be maintained. (We're not selling in the immediate future, but probably in 2-3 years, and I don't want to add to the list of things I will have to redo in order to add wider appeal to my house.) And if you are someone who really loves to express yourself through color, you can probably still keep it to the more visible non-closet areas of the house, and feel perfectly "fulfilled"....See MoreShould I paint the inside walls same color as the outer walls?
Comments (7)It's not a design principle or "rule" but in this case the walls behind the shelving would look better if the blue were continued onto them. The reason has to do with contrast. The white shelves on the cream walls look a bit washed-out. The white shelving upon the blue walls would be quite strike and present a more polished look! Happy painting to you!...See Morevalzone5
