Something fishy in my neighborhood mail...
Comments (42)HA!!! Mystery solved!!! I got home about a half hour ago from a late night Wal-Mart run (got sunburned to hell driving with my cars top down all the way to Miami and back on Saturday and I needed some Aloe with Lidocaine... regular wasn't helping) Anyway... I got home and stuck out the bait envelope, though no one was around and I didn't expect any activity tonight. Well, I changed and put my magical blue potion on... and I set about getting the cat inside for the night. Looked out back, looked out front... out back... back to the front and wouldn't ya know... someone is walking briskly away from my yard... twas a guilty walk. So I start calling excuse me... and no response... I start briskly following (in PJ pants from Christmas, a tank top from middle school and fuzzy slippers). Down the street I go... I have no shame. Finally they stop and I see that its a girl that lives three houses down from me, the mentally handicapped girl that lives three doors down. *sigh* Well, she had the envelope. She told me she had been taking them and apologized. Here's the deal... she walks all day every day in the same pattern, over and over and over again... we all know it... and we're all used to seeing her walk around all the time (she's up before me in the morning and goes til dusk). So I didn't think much about it since she's harmless and is always around. She used to leave my boyfriend pictures and drawings all the time, she's sweet... just a bit off. I'm not sure what exactly her situation is, never cared to ask... I just take it as it is. I work with autistic children, so I have patience for special needs individuals. She found one of my envelopes one day because the mailbox was open, she knew that it had bubbles inside and likes to pop them. So she took it home. Then she kept coming back and checking for more. She says that she kept all the seeds and notes, and that she'll return them along with the envelopes tomorrow. I trust she will, and I'm going to speak with her older brothers that take care of her. She was very sorry, so I'm not going to report her... just make sure she understands she can't do that. Not the outcome I expected, but hopefully all my missing things will be returned to me and I can get the stuff sent out that I couldn't. Some people I already replaced the missing seeds for, and some I didn't have anymore of the type in question to replace with. So there we go... my thief was an innocent bubble popper gone wrong. Kim PS... she started to cry when I told her we'd have to talk to her brothers about it, she doesn't want to get in trouble. I'm going to make sure that she isn't, and I'm also going to take her some bubble wrap I have leftover from a recent ebay purchase. Hopefully this will mark the end of the seed heist era....See MoreMy 2 next door neighbors are having a major problem
Comments (32)Why do think ILMT's neighbors are having issues to begin with? ==>>> because they are running a business on an historic well that was never meant to be commercial??? .. who knows.. lol .. well then later she says its not deep enough ... I separated the 2 inches of rock down to the soil and found all the soil was SATURATED, soaking wet! Easily all the way down to the roots. It was a wet mud. ==>> sorry gotta yell... HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I ASKED YOU TO QUIT GUESSING .... AND GO OUT THERE AND DIG A HOLE.. CRIMMINEY ... if its that wet.. you can probably NOT WATER for a week or two.. and not have a single problem .. on anything but sand.. you most likely would have been killing trees by now .. DO NOT WATER AGAIN.. until the soil at 3 to 6 inches.. ACTUALLY DRIES.. DIG HOLES AND FIND OUT HOW IT ALL WORKS IN YOUR SOIL ... i am sooo angry .. you ask our help.. and then blow off all we say.. and then mysteriously find out we were right ... and you justt keep plugging away doing the same thing.. if i had anything better to do.. than to help you.. i wouldnt bother anymore.. you are severiously [new word there] over-watering your babes ... you have defaulted to a schedule.. and watering is an art ... stop watering on a schedule.. and find out what is going on ... become a watering artist .. not a slave to the schedule ... ken ps: i am not that mad.. i am just trying to make you.. GO DIG SOME HOLES.. and FIND OUT WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON OUT THERE ... continued luck.. as you will need it ... pps: my sand looks droughted dry.. 20 minutes after i water for 6 hours .. at 3 inches.. it stays damp for 3 to 5 days ... and guess why i know that.. i dig holes ... because that is how i learned to use my drip tape irrigation .... i dug holes.. between the emitters.. and learned to run the water.. until the water met in the middle ... and that is how long to run it .. and then i dug more holes.. to find find out when it was time to run it again .. lots of small 6 inch holes with a hand trowel .......See MoreWhat would you do if people in your neighborhood
Comments (28)You know, I'm probably the only one who (aside from safety issues) really doesn't think it's that big of a deal. I really can't understand why a nice talk wouldn't be the first option. Why would you first resort to signs or big landscaping projects? Why are people so afraid to talk to or confront people? You're really gonna offend them with a sign... Just try talking to them... Why resort to passive agressive measures as the first resort? And, yes, of course people can sue you, but they can sue you with a sign too (don't fool yourself), and some may be more likely getting hurt trying to jump your newly planted rose bush... Plus, don't most people have homeowner's insurance? I've heard this..."but someone could get hurt on your property and sue you" thing for years, and I have known of people getting hurt on people's property, but I have never ever heard of anyone actually suing anyone when they got hurt on their property without any real negligence. If people are that afraid about being sued, I'm surprise they don't have big gates around their entire yard and property to keep people totally out. It's sad that neighbors just really aren't really neighborly anymore.. Maybe it's because people don't allow cut throughs and nieghbors put up signs to keep other neighbor out. Gosh, in my neighborhood, we don't have side walks, and everyone walks on people's yards (especially when they have kids and dogs with them). The kids all hit balls into each other yards and everybody can go get them with no problem, etc... No body seems to care and we actually all seem to like each other and get along fine, go figure... Plus, no one has ever sued anyone either. It's sad to think you can't let your neighbor take a short cut and walk through your drive way just because it annoys you and you 'could get sued'....See MoreOne next door neighbor loves my cottage garden one hates it.
Comments (25)I had the same problem as I was converting most of my yard into one big garden. I live on .4 acres. I am making almost all of my front yard a cottage garden. The problem is in the first couple of years it can really look scant and irregular until all the flowers reseed, spread, and fill the area. Now that my sweet williams (dianthus) and coreopsis are spreading rapidly it looks more solid and currently full of beautiful color. Don't give up. I would suggest planting perennials that readily reseed and easily divide. These will quickly fill in to give a more full look. Also, plant randomly together so that as one plant is fading in color another is coming into flower. I planted 1,000 stargazer lilies to pick up the slack when others may be going out of flower. In the fall I have goldenrod and asters to makeup the color different along with some spider lilies. Don't be afraid to mix up your plants. The point of a cottage garden is to have that wild random look like God has done in nature. You don't see God planting trees, shrubs, and flowers in rows in the wild areas of our country. We find beauty in randomness because it is harder for us to put it together in groups. This is why planting in groups of odd numbers is more attractive. Couple that with mixing about 3 species together and you have a great combination....See More- 3 years agolast modified: 3 years ago
