My sweet one had the same name as a Sportsman described in a famous poem, but really

named after a Family name in my DH's Family. Has the meaning...Alert or watchful. Can

be a first or last name, and depending on spelling male or female.+

Our champion in conformation (and sweetest) Westie was call-named for the Dickens character/narrator in Great Expectations. He exemplified the popular connotation of the name, too.

Our first, pet store, Westie was named for the poor Starfish brand tuna. Unfortunately, it was also the given name of a subsequent neighbor -- a difficulty when calling the dog in from the back yard.

Our current dog came from the shelter with a crazy name. He was only about 5 or 6 months at the time, so we changed it. I like old names so he is now named the same name as The Beav's bro.

Caroline, my cats were named Joseph Freiherr von Eichendorff, and I called him Eichendorff or Ike for short, and the Persian was named Katharina (plus my last name or "Von Bora"), and I called her/him Katrina or Tina (usually Tina) for short. That way I had Ike and Tina for the pair, although I usually used Eichendorff instead of Ike.

I had Katharina first, and then named the second cat Eichendorff because I really liked the Taugenichts novella that I read for my German Romantic Period class, which was my favorite period for German literature. Ludwig Tiek is my favorite German Romantic writer, however.

I think I might be like Lars, no way to let you know without telling you outright.

Matter of fact, none of the past four pets I've had... I can tell you they're all Irish names! You might get two of the four.

ladypat, yes to Shasta! she's a 2 1/2 year old lab, so the mix of innocent daisies and destructive volcanoes suits her. Here's another hint for the chinese flavoring mix: this is the fifth dog we've owned together and we rarely call her by her "full name."

Hah, My older cat is named the same as The above King of England's older sister though not named for her and the younger if I am going to keep with the king and queen theme is the same name as George lll's wife though she only answers to her nick name.

My last dog was a nondescript mutt that we found on the streets of philadelphia. He was rather bedraggled looking, so thats how i got his name.

Our current dog was named after a lead character, the queen, in the movie The Lion King. She came with that name from her previous owner. She was 8 or 9, so she was use to that name so we kept it.

The dog we had before her was rescued on Halloween night and was all black so they named her after the TV host, Mistress of the Dark. It fit her. (That is her in my picture ID)

Our one and only dog (generally refered to as "Our Dog") was named for Bill and Hillary Clinton's daughter. Presumably. She came with the name and had had enough changes in her short life without learning a new name.

Oh! I have to tell you about s cat that ex- dh and I had. When my cat Peanut died, mom said she wanted to plant a tree in honour of her. We already had trees so we didn't do that. We saw an ad in the paper for a cat $50. We went to take a look at him and he was hiding in the closet. The homeowner had kids, did daycare and had a Shepherd. The cat was terrified.

We took him and on the way home we were trying to come up with a new name. DH said Let's call him after your mom. I said You want to call him *****? He said no. "Biddy" after The old biddy. Mom thought that was hilarious.

We don't have any pets but our last animals were a flock of laying hens and a rooster. The rooster was named after a John Wayne movie character who had a drinking problem.

My first two dachshunds were named for characters in Wagnerian operas. The third was named for Odysseus' dog, who waited all those years for his master to return, was the only one who recognized him and who sniffed him and then dropped dead at his feet. The ultimate faithful dog!

Not my pet but I find this amusing enough to share.

Not too long ago I saw a video posted of someone's horse being obstinate. The horse's name was Chicken Nugget. In the video she calls to it using Chicken Elizabeth Nugget. When someone asked about it, the owner replied that all horses need middle names so they know when they have really crossed the line, just like children do when parents use their middle name.
