I used that same tile, only in 1.5 inch, in all 3 of my bathrooms. I used almost all white tiles with just a few black ones to make a border. The grout we used is Custom Polyblend in Platinum. It turned out be a nice light silver. We used the same grout color on the white subway tile walls. I'll try to post a pic when my husband comes back with his camera.

For others' input do a search on this forum "black white" -- there has been lots said about this.

You'll love that hex tile! It took me a long time to find it locally until I figured out it is imported by American Universal from Japan.

We used a grey colour called "warm grey" but heck if I can remember the manufacturer at the moment. I'll post if/when I remember. I had originally bought the Platinum same as piegirl, but couldn't use it (another story) and had to run out to the home centre and get the warm grey. I tried to use the platinum next to the warm grey when we installed the threshold and found the platinum was a shade lighter than the warm grey. Hope this helps.

I have seen mention of this Mapei on other threads and did a google search and came up with a lot of foreign-language links. Who makes it? Or better yet, can you give me a link to a website?

(Also, I sent you an email - did you get it? I noticed another tile installation disaster today. Our Master Bath floor has been covered for protection until today when part of it was exposed while the double vanity was installed. The large 16" square honed Calcutta Gold tiles are not centered on any of the walls, so there are really off grout lines at the center of the vanity. It is really obvious and when I think about it I literally want to cry :( . This is our forever house and everywhere I turn, a tile job is done badly. I could really use a good referal!)

Smarge, yes I did. I'm trying to get through to this guy right now. Apparently he hasn't been on line for a while, and For whatever reason, I never recorded his number on my computer, so I've been asking around to anyone who I thought might have his number, as well as sending him emails and PM's in 3 different forums!

If this guy is screwing up your house this bad, get rid of this guy. I'm going to post open messages in a couple of forums I go into. There are too many people from Jersey I've seen that I would trust not to be able to come up with SOMEONE.

Hey Bill, are you there? I still am hoping for a good grout color suggestion for my all black hex bathroom floor with a single line of white dot border. (Going with the warm gray for the white floor with black dot flowers). I think the warm gray might be too light, but since it will darken over time maybe that's not a problem?

(FWIW, I'll post photos when finished so others can have my bathrooms and grout selections as a future resource.)

PS. Both bathrooms will have a white subway tile tub surround. The tile is meant to be a bit wavy and hand-made looking and I was planning to just do white grout. Should I stick with the warm gray for that as well?

I'm not bill but I think warm grey is going to read very light against black. This is not the best picture in the world but this is what it looks like against black (I used warm grey for the walls and you can see how much lighter it looks between the black liner pieces):

smarge-- for the black hex, look at Mapei's pearl gray. It's a step below charcoal, and would show as being just a bit lighter than the tile. As for the subway tile, yes, I'd stick with the warm gray.

One other thing-- I DID send you a recommendation for a good installer yesterday-- did you get it? I haven't heard from him today, but I know when I talked to him yesterday, he was expecting to hear from you.
