Show off your pinks--Part II
Comments (26)Hi all, Thanks for the nice comments on the photos. The picture of Heritage was just pure luck, I was ready to take the photo and a bee flew in at just the right moment, it's one of my favourite photos. Growing and taking photos of English Roses has become one of my favourite hobbies, they bring me such joy to grow them, and I'm always so happy when I'm able to capture something of the essence of the rose the way that I see their beauty. It's also a great pleasure to share them and have others find beauty in the photographs, so my thanks to you for enjoying them and commenting on them. I see a new thread on yellows, we should perhaps add one for reds and one for apricots? Still, overall, I find the pinks most beautiful of all. many thanks, robert...See MoreOT: OK, tell me about your name!
Comments (149)I always wondered about Pal's screen name, too. Finally had to look it up when it appeared as the answer in a crossword puzzle. It's a cryptic puzzle (I love wordplay), so here is the clue: "Most ghastly, claiming brats reused parchment" Now, our Pal is certainly neither ghastly nor a brat, so here is how the puzzle works: - A synonym for "most ghastly" might be "palest" - A synonym for "brats" might be "imps" - "claiming" implies taking possession of something, so "palest" takes "imps" into itself, between the l and the e. "pal imps est" - And you end up with a word meaning "reused parchment" Now, WHY our "Palimpsest"? Inquiring minds want to know!...See MoreIt's December 2014, How's your building coming Part II
Comments (31)Happy New Year fellow builders! We hope to be in our new home sometime in the coming year as I am sure many of you will be, too. It sure would be nice to have an end date on this home..... but it is still a work in progress. We need to get out of this rental by April. Hopefully, we will be able to stay longer if needbe. We had our lot cleared in June. Concrete poured the end of August and the framing started in mid-Sept. As of this week, we passed all our inspections for gas, electric, plumbing and anything else that is between the studs. We are currently getting foam insulation installed this week. And the masons are finishing up the stone and brick exterior work. We are done with all the selections for appliances, cabinetry, tiling and electrical fixtures. Only need to decide on our wall paint colors and the stain color of our wood flooring now. Our landscaping plan has yet to be reviewed, though. Can't wait to see the finishing part. Because the preparation seems to have taken quite some time now. Welcome to the newbies who are just beginning. Aimless I glad to hear you have locked in a lower mortgage rate and you have gone over your overages with your builder. Carsonheim, your wood work is beautiful! Enjoy it! It seems everytime we turn around we are paying overages on our allowances. We even started out with overages that we knew about (my Jason hydrotherapy tub and my husband's steam shower for starters). But sometimes your allowances aren't enough to cover what you really want. We definitely counted on having to spend extra on a number of items. So far we haven't gone too crazy, but it would be helpful if our builder would let us know BEFORE he buys something that we are over by a lot! Comments (39)Molie, I have a few white daylilies, but 'Light the Way' is really quite stunning. I also love 'Delia O'Brian Brown'. Steve, I can smell those lilies through the screen! And I'm sneezing! LOL! I really love the look of lilies, but I'm so allergic to them. Tried them for a couple years but just had too many issues. Then the beetles came.......then I really gave up. Will have to continue to enjoy your great photos! Isn't Marie's garden awesome?! I'm so glad Barb took pics while we were there. One of those gardens that is just so much fun to stroll around and find all the cool stuff planted. Such a wide variety. Claire, my viburnum was flowering beautifully, until they all started to turn brown, shrivel up and fall off. So no berries for me this year. I was just happy that the shrub appears to be OK. I was a little worried when the flowers were giving it up. I really like that carefree delight rose. Soooo pretty. Rooguchi clematis has been a blooming powerhouse for weeks. It doesn't show much sign of slowing down yet. Mohawk viburnum with its beautiful berry display. I love the way they change colors over time. Sorry for the blurry photo. I really need to ditch my point and shoot and go back to my D-SLR. But you get the idea. It's loaded with berries.....and the birds and critters never eat them. The daylily bed never disappoints. Delphiniums are now all cut down in cottage area. Hoping for a repeat bloom this fall....See MoreBoopadaboo
