12 foot ceiling window size
Comments (15)I've owned historic homes with as much as 14' ceilings. Do a quick calculation on the total volume of the structure using the varying heights. On top of the additional cost of materials, you will discover that the HVAC costs will be huge. The cabinet costs are daunting, too. I would suggest that 10' is a good number. You can still get the volume feel with taller doors, but no so huge that the costs go haywire. If you want to vault a great room that would create that spacious volume without having to make the entire house a jumbo....See More12 Foot Ceiling Cabinets? Photos?
Comments (13)We did it there because the original cabinets were above the window. (There was a water event from above that damaged them.) We tried to make it look as though these could also be original. For yours, I think your uppers need to be a bit taller for better proportion. We tried to use overscale elements wherever possible because the ceiling was so tall. The existing cove molding was huge too! The section that had to be replaced because of damage had to be custom created. This may be repeating some of the above. ,If so I apologize. I also would have the short uppers go all the way around the room, as a single horizontal design element. Your mantle area needs work as it isn’t deep enough to be functional as a capture area. Not enough drawers, and the island protruding past the perimeter would be a no go for me. The longest that a slab of stone that’s available is right around 9’. Work within that limitation....See More3-Tier Closet rods with 9 foot ceiling versus 10 foot ceiling?
Comments (5)Just went and did that Mark. My shortest items are my blazers/jackets...which are pretty small and they are still 30ish inches with my hangers. Shirts are a few inches longer than that. Could probably squeeze in 3 rods, but it would look really cramped, rather than a nice space. My husbands shirts at 38 inches would really be snug. Maybe 2 rods of shirts plus 1 of folded in half jeans...but again, would look cramped. Seems that 10 foot really is the minimum to make this work, even in a hers closet....See MoreIs it cheaper to do a 12 foot ceiling in living room or a cathedral?
Comments (6)Depends on the floor plan and how it ties into the rest of the house. If you have 9 ft side walls with a 14 ft peak ... I think that will be cheaper than the same size room with flat 12 ft ceilings, assuming you use proportionately sized door and windows for each space. The room with flat 12 ft ceilings would need taller windows and doors/sliders, so that part would cost more....See Morejackowskib
