Comments (5)I have read off and on for years about some members having problems getting their emails via GW, or that some come through and some don't for the member. That is why I encourage members to set up their email so the address is shown to Members...which is not to be confused with showing it to All where it will appear in posts. I dislike having to email anyone via GW because I then do not get a copy of the email sent to me. I can request a copy though if they have it set to Members but who knows if they will get my email, or if I will get the copy? For those showing their address to Members I just copy the addy, and then paste it into my Hotmail. But what is equally odd is that of those that go into my Inbox, half or so are marked as potentially dangerous, and I have to click on a box warning me before I can open the text. I have that too on some emails sent via GW, but I also have it when other folks or 'sites' send me emails. I found 3 emails from GWers in my spam filter on my server tonight. Kathy, is there a way to adjust your filter? I'm thinking I have an adjustment on my Hotmail and have it set to 'medium' security. I get a little spam, but not much considering I've had the same email addy for 11 years. When I get spam, I mark it as JUNK in my Hotmail, and Hotmail then recognizes more stuff as junk so it never even reaches me, or so I've read, I think. Sue...See MoreSpam link . . .
Comments (6)Shee; I was getting similar ones a few months ago; one from my neighbor; another from someone I used to email from another message board & one from my son. I ended up viewing the originating IP because I wanted to know if it was an infection or what- I was getting a lot from these 3- turns out it was not from their computers or cell phones; it originated over seas; so there was nothing we could really do about it except delete it. I did email the originating address so that they knew this happened; I also included everyone else it was sent to so they could email them. This is why I thought it was from their computer because it was legitimate people they know that it was sending to in the same email. My guess is that it started with a trojan that harvested addresses. Tell her to download & install Super Antispyware & to run it a few times....See MoreSpeaking of movies, not spam, "Mamma Mia"
Comments (18)There's a wrinkle to Mama Mia (the stage and first movie versions) that hasn't been mentioned. Most musical theater starts with a story, whether fiction or not, whether existing or written for the project. Then songs are written to accompany, flavor, or otherwise tell the story. An exception is recent productions like Jersey Boys, or Beautiful (Carol King), where a play is written about a known subject in the music world and the existing songs sprinkle the story as highlights or flavorings of the underlying quasi-biographical plot. Mama Mia is different, in that that Benny and Bjorn (the two "B's" of ABBA and composers of most of their songs) decided to try to take long existing ABBA songs about unrelated and diverse topics and somehow try to concoct a story that loosely fit them. The result was preposterous, as they well knew, and so the light-hearted and almost clowning spirit of the play comes from the ridiculous story that they settled on. I remember seeing an early production when at midplay, an actor turned to the audience and said "You won't believe what my next line is and what her response will be". I don't know if that was scripted or not but it was very funny and more than fit with the tone. So to me, seeing the play is about ignoring the ridiculous story and enjoying the music. I've seen it a number of times, in both NY and London and locally with a national touring company, and the experience each time was like going to a rock concert where the songs were known and the audience stood, danced, and sang for their enjoyment. I thought the movie was dumb and lacked what the play is all about - the spontaneity and fun of a live performance....See MoreCell phone spam?
Comments (56)Excuse me for resurrecting this thread but I had an experience a few moments ago that reaffirms (for me) why I answer cell phone calls from unrecognized numbers. My phone rang showing an ID with an area code to the north of San Francisco. Not nearby. I don't know anyone up there and didn't recognize the number, but I always answer the phone. It was a UPS driver who had a delivery I was expecting. They're doing paving work on my street and he asked if he could leave the box at a neighbor's house a bit of a distance away. He gave me the name and address where he was, I don't know them. I told him that if he continued along the road he'd find it passable and he would reach my house. He thanked me and has made the delivery. That's why shipping labels usually have the recipient's phone number and that's why I answer my phone. I don't give it out indiscriminately. I can live with the few robo or sales solicitation, often obviously sequential number, calls I get. I simply end unwanted calls. Easy enough....See More- 4 years ago
