IMO there is only so much you do with a very exact style of house to change it without spesnding a huge amount of money. This one IMO will never be modern farmhouse but painting it white and doing black windows would be the only way to get a bit of that feel. I think if the intereior is awesome learn to love what you have you live in the inside . We bought a 1905 1 1/2 storey house we have avery contemporary style so the inside our style the exterior the style the house was meant to be

Our house is the same style, and for years, we heard comments like, "Oh, it's nicer on the inside than I thought it would be." We prefer a more traditional style but our location is awesome, and after 10 years, we've learned to love it. So I don't know how you can make that more traditional, but I can tell you that it can look much better. We painted ours black, updated the landscaping, and are putting on a metal roof. This designer's home was my inspiration.

You are not going to make that house look farmhouse. Depending on when it was built (early vs. late 70s), you should pay a lot of attention to insulation and heating systems. There was a time when nukes were going to make electricity too cheap to meter and who needed insultation then? The spec sheet should tell you the annual costs for utilities. Compare heating with similar houses of the same size in your area. You can find this with a little Googling.

White would work.

The work needed to make the exterior look in any way traditional or farmhouse, or anything other than contemporary, would be extensive structurally, and would most likely Ruin the things that you think make the inside of the house so great. The inside of the house lives like it does because of the shape of the house on the outside.

Honestly, I would much rather live in a house with a great interior (actually I do, my exterior is nothing special). There are a lot of houses being built now with exteriors that have the exterior appearance it sounds like you want, but pretty terrible convoluted layouts on the interior.

White on the siding, metal roof, maybe stone where the diagonal siding is, and a column or two on the porch would change things dramatically.

Oh my gosh, you can farm up anything you want, especially if you love the inside. First, replace the windows with wooden frame with mullions. Lots of flowery landscaping, paint white, add shutters. Add railing to porch. You can even replace the garage doors with barn style.

That house is never going to appear farmhouse. There is nothing about it that says farmhouse. Its actually a very attractive house. You would need to change the entire exterior structure to get it to look even close to anything farmhouse. I would love it just like it is.

Please pass on it. This is a wonderful example of the era it was built … please leave it for those who will appreciate it.

It would not be easy or inexpensive to drastically change this to such a vastly different style of architecture.

I don’t mean that to come across rudely, my sincere apologies if it does. I understand this look doesn’t appeal to everyone, so I think finding a house more to your liking would be the best decision.
